Job summary

Caesars Digital in Kraków is seeking a Senior Scala Engineer to join a cross-functional team, mentor others, and drive technical excellence in a Scrum environment. You will write code, shape architecture, and ensure production readiness of owned services.

You will collaborate with Solutions Architects, Product, and DevOps to deliver high-quality, scalable real-time systems using Scala, Zio, Cats Effect, AWS, Kafka, and modern observability tools.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive experience as a software engineer, preferably with real-time or high-growth systems such as betting or transactional platforms.
• Strong expertise in Scala and related frameworks (Zio, Cats Effect).
• Experience building high-throughput, real-time APIs and cloud-native architectures (AWS).
• Familiarity with messaging platforms like Kafka and observability tools.

Responsibilities

• Directly contribute to the team by writing and reviewing impactful Scala code and deploying with Kubernetes and GitLab.
• Develop and maintain best practices to drive quality and operational excellence.
• Ensure effective code reviews and address technical debt alongside product development.
• Collaborate with Solutions Architects to review architectural documentation before engagement.
• Advocate for time to address technical issues alongside product development.
• Collaborate with Product in planning, sizing work and identifying risks.

Responsibilities

• Directly contribute to team efforts by writing and reviewing impactful Scala code as well as code and config related to Kubernetes and Gitlab deployments.
• Develop, implement, and maintain best practices and standards that drive higher quality and operational excellence within your team.
• Perform quality control by ensuring effective code reviews and addressing technical debt alongside product development.
• Collaborate with Solutions Architects to create and review architectural documentation before team engagement.
• Be mindful of your team’s technical debt and advocate for time to address technical issues alongside product development.
• Collaborate with Product in planning activities, including sizing of work, identifying risks and dependencies.
• Ensure requirements are clear and well-defined. Ensure alignment with sprint goals/capacity.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive experience as a software engineer, preferably within high-growth or real-time systems like betting or transactional platforms.
• Extensive engineering experience in:
• Scala and related frameworks (Zio, Cats Effect).
• Building and maintaining APIs for high-throughput, real-time applications.
• Utilizing AWS for cloud-native architectures.
• Kafka and other NRT messaging platforms.
• Relational and non-relational databases like Cassandra, Redis, Postgresql.
• Observability tools like Splunk and Dynatrace.
• Experience designing software architecture for scalable, distributed systems.
• Strong expertise in Agile product delivery, Scrum and Extreme Programming practices.
• Demonstrated bias toward action and ownership over key initiatives with a delivery-focused mindset.
