Job summary

Caesars Sportsbook & Casino in Kraków is seeking a Senior Scala Engineer to join a team delivering high-quality, production-grade software within a Scrum framework. You will mentor juniors, enforce best practices, and contribute to architectural decisions, while ensuring services remain healthy in production.

You will write Scala code, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and help drive technical excellence across real-time, high-throughput systems.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in software engineering, preferably in real-time or betting platforms.
• Strong Scala experience and familiarity with Zio, Cats Effect.
• Experience building high-throughput APIs and cloud-native design on AWS.

Responsibilities

• Directly contribute to team efforts by writing and reviewing impactful Scala code and Kubernetes/Gitlab deployment code.
• Develop, implement, and maintain best practices and standards for higher quality and reliability.
• Ensure code reviews are effective and address technical debt alongside product work.
• Collaborate with Solutions Architects to review architectural documentation before team engagement.
• Advocate for addressing technical debt while delivering product features.
• Collaborate with Product in planning activities, including sizing, risks, and dependencies.
• Ensure requirements are clear and aligned with sprint goals and capacity.

Responsibilities

• Directly contribute to team efforts by writing and reviewing impactful Scala code as well as code and config related to Kubernetes and Gitlab deployments.
• Develop, implement, and maintain best practices and standards that drive higher quality and operational excellence within your team.
• Perform quality control by ensuring effective code reviews and addressing technical debt alongside product development.
• Collaborate with Solutions Architects to create and review architectural documentation before team engagement.
• Be mindful of your team’s technical debt and advocate for time to address technical issues alongside product development.
• Collaborate with Product in planning activities, including sizing of work, identifying risks and dependencies.
• Ensure requirements are clear and well-defined. Ensure alignment with sprint goals/capacity.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive experience as a software engineer, preferably within high-growth or real-time systems like betting or transactional platforms.
• Extensive engineering experience in:
• Scala and related frameworks (Zio, Cats Effect).
• Building and maintaining APIs for high-throughput, real-time applications.
• Utilizing AWS for cloud-native architectures.
• Kafka and other NRT messaging platforms.
• Relational and non-relational databases like Cassandra, Redis, Postgresql.
• Observability tools like Splunk and Dynatrace.
• Experience designing software architecture for scalable, distributed systems.
• Strong expertise in Agile product delivery, Scrum and Extreme Programming practices.
• Demonstrated bias toward action and ownership over key initiatives with a delivery-focused mindset.
