Job summary

FIS in Warszawa is seeking a Non‑Functional Engineer Lead to own performance, reliability, and resilience engineering for enterprise‑grade applications in a regulated payments environment.

You will design tests, analyze behavior with monitoring tools, mentor engineers, and drive optimization across Java apps, databases, and middleware while integrating quality early in the SDLC.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
• Strong experience with Java EE technologies and JVM languages.
• Proven capability to lead non‑functional quality in complex systems.
• Hands‑on experience with CI/CD, monitoring, and observability tools.
• Solid SQL skills and knowledge of Oracle or PostgreSQL tuning.
• Familiarity with containerized environments and cloud basics.

About the Role

As a Non‑Functional Engineer Lead, Quality, you will lead the strategy and execution of performance, reliability, and resilience engineering for enterprise‑grade applications. You’ll ensure systems meet demanding non‑functional requirements for scale, availability, and security within a regulated payments environment. Success in this role is measured by predictable performance, high availability, and production stability across complex distributed systems.

What You Will Be Doing

• Lead non‑functional quality strategy across performance, scalability, resilience, and availability
• Design and execute performance, load, stress, and endurance testing
• Analyze system behavior using monitoring and observability tools
• Partner with engineering and architecture teams to embed quality early in the SDLC
• Drive performance optimization across Java applications, databases, and middleware
• Establish CI‑driven quality gates using automated functional and non‑functional tests
• Validate applications across application servers and containerized environments
• Troubleshoot complex production issues and lead root‑cause analysis
• Mentor engineers on non‑functional testing practices and quality standards
• Extensive hands‑on experience in application development and quality engineering
• Strong expertise in Java (JDK 8/17), JEE, Maven, Hibernate, EJB, MQ, SQL, REST, XML/XSD, JSON
• Proven experience monitoring and analyzing application performance
• Advanced skills in performance, high‑availability, and resilience testing
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated test frameworks (e.g., Jenkins)
• Knowledge of application servers (WebSphere, WebLogic, JBoss, Open Liberty)
• Strong database experience with Oracle or PostgreSQL, including performance tuning
• Proficiency in Linux‑based and containerized environments
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes in production
• Knowledge of Kafka or event‑driven architectures
• Experience in payments domains (e.g., SEPA, SWIFT)
• Advanced REST API design and optimization skills
• Deep PostgreSQL performance and scalability expertise

The pay range for this full‑time position is 175,900.00 - 281,440.00 PLN Annual and reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position based on the posted role, level, and location.
