Job summary

Akamai Technologies, Inc. seeks a Senior Site Reliability Engineer Lead to shape the next generation control plane on a globally distributed Kubernetes-based platform. You will drive reliability, scale, and automation with a code-first mindset.

You will collaborate with platform, product, and support teams, own SLOs/KPIs, and lead on-call responses while advocating open communication and rapid, secure development cycles.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant experience in SRE/DevOps.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• Deep experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native architectures.
• Strong Linux internals, containerization, and networking knowledge.
• Code-first mindset with automation—Go, Python, or Bash.
• Experience with IaC tools Crossplane, Pulumi, Terraform, or Ansible.
• Experience with observability tools OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, Loki.

With your expertise in Kubernetes and Cloud-Native technologies, you will provide technical and architectural leadership to design, build, and scale our Next Generation Control Plane. You will lead the transformation toward a highly available, resilient, and distributed microservices architecture designed to support massive-scale operations seamlessly.

As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer Lead, you will be responsible for:

• Contributing to the development and operation of a globally-deployed, multi-tenant platform built on Kubernetes and other cloud-native technologies
• Building automation and tooling to reduce operational toil, improve deployment safety, and accelerate incident response
• Creating and maintaining SLOs and KPIs, collaborating with Engineering, Product, and Support teams

Do what you love

To be successful in this role you will:

• Have 5+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (or similar field) or equivalent experience
• Approach complex problems with methodical curiosity, eager to untangle complex webs of dependencies to gain understanding
• Have prior experience building and operating highly available, fault-tolerant, scalable production services using Kubernetes (ideally self-hosted/managed) and other cloud-native technologies
• Have a working understanding of Linux internals, especially containerization and networking as well as the technologies that support it
• Take a code-first approach to operating infrastructure, effectively eliminating toil through code fixes and automation
• Be knowledgeable of the Go programming language and comfortable leveraging Python or Bash for scripting needs
• Be familiar using infrastructure as code tools like Crossplane, Pulumi, Terraform or Ansible
• Have in-depth experience utilizing modern observability tooling such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, or similar
