Job summary

Akamai Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Principal Site Reliability Engineer Lead to shape the future of Akamai Cloud. You will provide technical and architectural leadership to design, build, and scale our next generation control plane on Kubernetes and cloud-native tech.

You will lead a team, define reliability objectives, and drive a highly available, distributed microservices architecture able to support massive-scale operations with strong collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• Experience building highly available, fault-tolerant production services using Kubernetes.
• Strong understanding of Linux internals, containers, and networking.
• Code-first approach to operating infrastructure with automation.
• Proficiency in Go; Python or Bash for scripting.
• Familiar with infrastructure as code tools like Crossplane, Pulumi, Terraform or Ansible.
• Experience with observability tools such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, Loki.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to design, development, and operation of Golden Path platform built on Kubernetes and other cloud-native tech.
• Provide leadership, support, and mentoring of your team.
• Create and maintain SLOs and KPIs with Engineering, Product, and Support teams.
• Participate in on-call rotations and guide incident restoration and repair.

With your expertise in Kubernetes and Cloud-Native technologies, you will provide technical and architectural leadership to design, build, and scale our Next Generation Control Plane. You will lead the transformation toward a highly available, resilient, and distributed microservices architecture designed to support massive-scale operations seamlessly.

As a Principal Site Reliability Engineer Lead, you will be responsible for:

• Contributing to the design, development, and operation of a Golden Path platform built on Kubernetes and other cloud-native technologies
• Providing leadership, support, and mentoring of your team
• Creating and maintaining SLOs and KPIs, collaborating with Engineering, Product, and Support teams
• Participating in on-call rotations, guiding restoration and repair of service-impacting issues
• Working in an environment that fosters innovative solutions, rapid development cycles, and open communication

To be successful in this role you will:

• Have 10+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (or similar field) or equivalent experience
• Approach complex problems with methodical curiosity, eager to untangle complex webs of dependencies to gain understanding
• Have deep experience building and operating highly available, fault-tolerant, scalable production services using Kubernetes (ideally self-hosted/managed) and other cloud-native technologies
• Have a solid understanding of Linux internals, especially containerization and networking as well as the technologies that support it
• Take a code-first approach to operating infrastructure, effectively eliminating toil through code fixes and automation
• Be knowledgeable of the Go programming language and comfortable leveraging Python or Bash for scripting needs
• Be familiar using infrastructure as code tools like Crossplane, Pulumi, Terraform or Ansible
• Have in-depth experience utilizing modern observability tooling such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, or similar
