Job summary

UL Solutions in Germany is seeking a Senior Project Engineer (m/f/i) for Switching Devices with IEC 80947 expertise. The role is based in Neu-Isenburg and offers a hybrid setup requiring 3 days on site.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant technical field plus four years directly related work experience.
  • Fluent language skills in German and English.
  • Detailed knowledge of technical vocabulary in the discipline.
  • Working knowledge of conformity standards in the area of expertise.
  • Ability to apply project-handling concepts in the job context.
  • Knowledge in IEC 80947.

Responsibilities

  • Manage execution and timely completion of certification projects with defined scope and test programs.
  • Develop UL requirements, test methods and equipment; serve as project handler through proposal to completion.
  • Determine project scope, plan investigations, and specify costs, time, and sample needs.
  • Coordinate or conduct tests at client sites as required by projects.
  • Communicate status and results to clients; prepare reports and follow-up procedures.
  • Integrate continuous improvement concepts into all aspects of the job.
  • Address engineering issues related to variation notices and review processes.
  • Represent UL at industry events and possibly act as a designated engineer for product categories.

We are looking to appoint an (Senior) Project Engineer (m/f/i) for Switching Devices with experience in IEC 80947. She/He will join our team based in Neu-Isenburg/Germany and work on a hybrid basis (3 days on site required).

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the execution and timely completion of certification projects by analyzing project scope and defining project specifications, establishing test programs for product investigations, and preparing reports for customers.
  • Participates in the development of UL requirements, test methods and test equipment. Exercises project responsibility as a Project Handler in which he/she is responsible from proposal preparation through execution to completion of assigned certification projects. If appropriately qualified, may act as reviewer and is therefore responsible for the various reviews of certification projects.
  • Independently determines project scope, develops a preliminary plan of investigation, and determines project specifications such as cost, time, and sample requirements by analyzing client input, available supplemental data, and product construction.
  • Projects may include frequent travel to conduct or witness tests at client sites.
  • Serves as Project Handler of record and may sign as Reviewer of record as assigned.
  • Communicates project status and results to clients through frequent contact and by preparing reports.
  • Prepares Follow-Up Service Procedures and information pages.
  • Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
  • Resolves engineering issues associated with Variation Notices by analyzing and reporting on the acceptability of the variations.
  • Proposes development of new and/or revised UL requirements.
  • Develops special test methods and test equipment.
  • Coordinates and/or performs File Reviews.
  • May represent UL at industry related functions such as seminars and trade shows.
  • May provide direction as a Primary Designated Engineer or Designated Engineer for specific product categories.
  • May direct and review work of assigned staff.
  • May train office, field, and/or laboratory staff and entry-level engineers.
  • Provides technical assistance to laboratory and/or field staff.
  • Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
  • Performs other duties as directed.
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or Physics from an accredited program plus four years directly related work experience.
  • Fluent language skills in German & English.
  • Detailed knowledge of the technical vocabulary common to the appropriate discipline.
  • Working knowledge of conformity standards in use in area of expertise.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply project-handling concepts in use in area of expertise.
  • Knowledge in IEC 80947
