Senior Platform Engineer

About the Role
As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will play a key role in evolving and scaling our Databricks-based data platform while enabling adoption across multiple domain teams. This role combines hands‑on engineering, platform architecture, and close collaboration with spoke teams to ensure the platform remains scalable, reusable, and easy to adopt.
You will work closely with data engineering and cross‑functional teams to strengthen platform capabilities, improve developer experience, and build reusable standards that support long‑term growth of our data ecosystem.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Act as the go‑to Databricks expert for spoke teams across the organisation.
- Support teams through onboarding, architecture reviews, and hands‑on technical coaching.
- Create workshops, reference implementations, and reusable patterns that accelerate adoption.
- Improve developer experience by reducing platform friction and simplifying workflows.
- Proactively identify and remove blockers impacting adoption.
- Own and evolve the ODP ingestion framework for multi‑source batch and near‑real‑time ingestion.
- Increase robustness, extensibility, and reusability across spoke‑specific connectors.
- Embed observability, validation, and data quality directly into the framework.
- Ensure platform patterns scale reliably as new data sources and teams onboard.
- Evolve the ODP data product framework to support self‑service product creation.
- Build reusable templates and accelerators to enable faster delivery.
- Strengthen data‑sharing capabilities for internal marketplace and external partner use cases.
- Promote standardisation and consistency across teams.
- Design and implement Unity Catalog access control models.
- Ensure governance remains scalable, auditable, and aligned with enterprise security requirements.
- Support secure data sharing and permissions management across domains.
- Stay ahead of the Databricks roadmap and evaluate new capabilities for the platform.
- Assess and pilot features such as Databricks AI/BI (including Genie and Dashboards), Lakeflow and declarative pipelines, Serverless compute policies.
- Translate findings into practical enablement plans.
- Drive adoption of validated capabilities across the platform.

What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or equivalent.
- Experience working in agile/scrum delivery teams.
- Deep hands‑on experience with Apache Spark (Python and SQL), Databricks Jobs, Workflows, Notebooks, and Declarative Asset Bundles, Observability, Lakeflow, and Autoloader, Unity Catalog governance, access control, and data sharing.
- Strong hands‑on experience with AWS services (e.g., S3, Glue, Lambda, IAM, EKS, Redshift), with the last 5 years working with AWS Cloud Infrastructure.
- Experience of working with multi‑account cloud infrastructure.
- Proficiency in Terraform, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CIRCI/CD.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes setup and operations.
- Proven experience building reusable frameworks for data ingestion, data transformation, data product delivery.
- Programming skills in Python.
