Job summary

Affim is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to lead production-grade ML models powering credit lending decisions across Europe and Australia. You’ll lead technical strategy, architect scalable ML solutions, and mentor a growing team, collaborating with product, engineering, and risk leaders.

You’ll bring 8+ years of ML experience, strong Python mastery, and hands-on work with LightGBM/XGBoost and PyTorch.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience researching, designing, deploying, and operating large-scale, real-time ML systems.
• Strong Python skills and production-quality code.
• Experience with tabular classification models (LightGBM/XGBoost) and deep learning (PyTorch).
• Experience with distributed data processing (Spark, Ray).
• ML lifecycle tooling (Kubeflow, Airflow, MLflow).
• Proficient in AI-powered developer tools (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor).
• Strong engineering leadership and code quality focus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for your team on a year-long horizon.
• Collaborate with ML Platform, product, engineering, and risk leadership for scalable expansion.
• Act as a force-multiplier by defining technical solutions and processes.
• Foster a culture of quality and ownership through code reviews and standards.
• Mentor engineers and lead by example to grow talent.
