Job summary

Xebia is a global AI-first, digital transformation and engineering partner. We seek an experienced Java backend developer to join our CEE team and build scalable, data-driven solutions.

You will work across Azure, MuleSoft, and microservices, ensuring robust integration patterns. The role requires 7+ years of Java experience, Java 11+, Spring Boot, XML processing, Azure services, and travel to Italy. English and Italian skills are essential. EU work permit is required.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional experience in Java backend development.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java 11+ and Spring Boot.
• Solid experience with XML processing and file-based integrations.
• Practical experience with Azure services (Blob Storage, Service Bus, Event Hub, Azure SQL).
• Experience with microservices architecture and event-driven systems.
• Good understanding of resilient integration patterns (retry, DLQ, idempotency, reconciliation).
• Experience with MuleSoft integrations.
• Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes (preferably AKS).
• Experience with Azure DevOps and CI/CD.
• Proficient English (B2) and Italian (B2); willingness to travel to Italy.
• Work from the EU region and required work permit.

Responsibilities

You will be:

• developing and maintaining backend integration services using Java and Spring Boot,
• implementing XML processing and file-based integrations, including generating and handling XML files,
• processing asynchronous messages and managing data flows across Azure services,
• working with Azure Blob Storage, Service Bus, Event Hub, and Azure SQL,
• designing and implementing microservices and event-driven solutions,
• applying resilient integration patterns such as retry, dead-letter queues, idempotency, reconciliation, and error handling,
• integrating services and systems using MuleSoft,
• contributing to CI/CD processes using Azure DevOps,
• working with Docker and Kubernetes, including AKS,
• troubleshooting production issues and supporting reliable operation of integration services.

Your profile:

• 7+ years of professional experience in Java backend development,
• strong hands‑on experience with Java 11+ and Spring Boot,
• solid experience with XML processing and file‑based integrations,
• practical experience with Azure services, particularly Blob Storage, Service Bus, Event Hub, and Azure SQL,
• experience with microservices architecture and event‑driven systems,
• good understanding of resilient integration patterns, including retry, DLQ, idempotency, and reconciliation,
• experience with MuleSoft integrations,
• hands‑on experience with Docker and Kubernetes, preferably AKS,
• experience with Azure DevOps and CI/CD,
• practical experience using AI‑powered assistants (e.g. Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to improve productivity, quality, or decision‑making in software delivery,
• strong troubleshooting and production support skills,
• good command of English (min. B2)and Italian (min. B2),
• willingness to travel occasionally to Italy to visit the client.

Work from the European Union region and a work permit are required.

Nice to have:

Experience applying GenAI in a more structured way within the SDLC, including defined workflows, prompt patterns, or tool integrations embedded into daily work.

• Interest in and familiarity with emerging AI‑driven practices (e.g. agent‑based workflows, automation patterns, AI‑augmented development), with a willingness to explore and experiment beyond standard approaches.
