Job summary

SumUp is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our acquiring team. You’ll design and evolve essential backend systems powering payment experiences for small businesses globally, focusing on reliability and scalability.

You’ll shape architectural decisions, own critical infrastructure from ground up, and collaborate with cross-functional squads across Processing, Reconciliation and Finance. This role offers hands-on impact in a fast-growing fintech environment.

Qualifications

• Solid programming experience with Golang
• Experience building and consuming APIs in production
• Understanding of software architecture, design principles and data modelling
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL valuable)
• Practical experience with Docker, AWS and Kubernetes
• DevOps mindset and ownership of systems you work on
• Strong problem-solving and collaborative skills

Responsibilities

• Design and build core acquiring capabilities (authorization, clearing, settlement)
• Develop APIs, data models and services for the acquiring platform
• Build reporting, back-office and operational tools
• Ensure systems meet card-scheme, security and compliance requirements
• Create observability, monitoring and incident response foundations
• Collaborate with Processing, Reconciliation, Risk, Compliance, Finance and Treasury
• Lead medium-to-large technical initiatives across teams
• Identify technical debt and operational risks and improve the platform
• Mentor teammates and contribute to testing and on-call practices
