You Have:
- Experience leading a multi-team engineering organization distributed across countries and time zones, including hiring senior engineers and developing managers
- A record of setting multi-year technical strategy for cloud infrastructure and turning it into roadmaps, OKRs, and headcount plans that stay ahead of product demand
- Sound judgment on long-horizon architecture decisions (account structure, multi-region, multi-cloud) at a scale of thousands of accounts
- A history of building self-service platforms that scale infrastructure without linear headcount growth, measured by adoption across product teams
- Ownership of cloud spend as a business outcome, making cost, performance, and reliability tradeoffs with finance and engineering leadership
- Comfort operating as a working manager: capable of writing code, reviewing architecture, and going deep on technical problems, not just managing from a distance
- Clear written communication that aligns senior stakeholders across geographies and functions
Skills and Technologies:
- Software engineering in Go or Python for internal services and APIs
- Cloud infrastructure on AWS, GCP, or Azure, managed through IaC (Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation) and API-driven control planes
- Multi-account governance: account vending, organization policies, IAM, and policy as code (OPA, Sentinel, or similar)
- Networking across multi-region, hybrid, and edge architectures: VPC and transit design, IPAM, BGP, private connectivity and VPN, DNS, CDN, and WAF
- Kubernetes, GitOps, and observability, including SLO definition and multi-region failover testing
- FinOps practices: cost allocation and tagging, unit economics, and commitment management
- Security and compliance for regulated financial services (PCI DSS, SOC 2)
Remitly's Builder Platform organization is responsible for the infrastructure that powers a global, always-on remittance business. The Cloud Engineering team owns the cloud primitives, networking, and automation that every product team builds on.
We're hiring a Senior Engineering Manager to lead this team across Krakow and the US. This is a hands-on role for someone who still wants to be close to the technical work while building and developing a high-performing engineering organization.
Responsibilities
- Champion an AI-first engineering culture
- driving the integration of AI agents, MCP tooling, and automated agentic systems into everything we do to transform infrastructure management and maximize team leverage
- Drive FinOps and cost optimization practices across cloud spend
- partnering with finance and engineering stakeholders to balance cost, performance, and reliability
- Own IaC strategy for cloud primitives
- building reusable, repeatable system patterns that other teams can adopt rather than reinvent
- Architect for global presence and high resiliency
- leveraging edge computing and multi-region, multi-cloud/hybrid strategies
- Lead and grow an engineering team spanning Krakow and the US, setting technical vision and direction focusing on self-service builder experience and holding a high bar for infrastructure-as-code, automation, and operational excellence
- Stay hands-on: review designs and code, get into incidents when needed, and maintain enough technical depth to make credible calls on architecture and tradeoffs
- Partner cross-functionally with Security, SRE, and Builder Experience on shared infrastructure solutions to provide a world-class self-service builder experience
- Partner with cross-functional teams and external partners on network expansion, VPN setup, and seamless network integration
- Own the comprehensive network strategy for edge computing, multi-account, and multi-region architectures
