Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a senior database engineer to lead and implement advanced database solutions within an agile team in Kraków. You will optimize, secure, and scale RDBMS-based systems, design data models, and collaborate across engineering, product, QA, and sales to modernize the platform.

The role requires strong SQL performance tuning, architecture experience, and the ability to deliver production-quality software on schedule. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with enterprise applications backed with RDBMS databases.
• 5+ years as a Database Architect or similar role.
• Hands-on experience in RDBMS and distributed data platforms as a database developer.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in SQL performance tuning in MS SQL Server.
• Track record of building high-performance software on schedule.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
• Excellent verbal and written communication with stakeholders.
• Experience with cloud databases and Agile development is desired.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and maintenance of one or more Charles River IMS modules within an agile scrum team.
• Contribute to optimization, resiliency, and performance improvements for clients.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, QA and sales to drive platform modernization.
• Design scalable, performant distributed database solutions.
• Create and maintain documentation for data models, configurations, and processes.
• Write complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts to support applications.
• Tune performance via indexing and SQL optimization; monitor bottlenecks.
• Define performance test strategies and develop data generation toolsets for tests.
• Implement and manage database security, access controls, encryption, auditing.
• Troubleshoot production issues with DBA teams; ensure data integrity and DR.
• Maintain database health and perform installations, configurations, upgrades in lower environments.

Responsibilities

• Join us as a leading technical contributor to the enhancement and maintenance of one or more Charles River IMS modules or components of an agile scrum team.
• Be a part of strategic development projects and contribute to mission-critical optimization, resiliency, and performance improvement work for our clients.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, QA and sales teams to drive the platform innovation and modernization.
• Design and implement scalable, performant and highly available distributed database solutions.
• Collaborate with peers across scrum teams to design and deliver database design conforming to database best practices and meet business and application requirements.
• Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of database design, data models, configurations, and processes.
• Write complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and script to support application development.
• Optimize performance through indexing, SQL query optimization, and other database tuning techniques.
• Monitor database performance metrics, analyze and identify bottlenecks, and recommend short-term and long-term solutions.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to define performance test strategy, and develop toolsets to generate synthetic datasets for effective and repeatable performance tests.
• Implement and manage database security, including access controls, encryption, and auditing.
• Collaborate with production DBA team to troubleshoot and resolve database production issue in timely manner.
• Monitor and maintain database health to ensure data integrity, availability, and disaster recovery.
• Perform database installation, configuration, and upgrades in lower environments.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with enterprise applications backed with RDBMS databases
• 5+ years of experience as a Database Architect or in a similar role supporting enterprise applications
• Extensive hands‑on experience in RDBMS and distributed data platforms as a database developer
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with ability to troubleshoot and resolve database related issues
• Proficiency in SQL performance tuning in MS SQL Server
• Strong track record of building high performance, production quality software on schedule
• Ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks simultaneously and adapt quickly to changes
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Nice To have
• Expert experience with hardware sizing and configuration, operating systems, scripting, and database technologies
• Experience in NoSQL databases is preferred
• Experience with cloud database services such as Azure SQL Database
• A minimum of 7 years working with an Agile development methodology strongly desired
• Experience with developing applications for the financial markets is a plus (Fixed Income, Trading, FX, Risk, Portfolio/Wealth Management, Market Data, FIX, etc.)
