Job summary

Qualient Technology Solutions UK Limited in Kraków is seeking a Senior Database/Infrastructure Engineer to lead and deliver critical infrastructure initiatives. You will manage RDBMS environments, optimise costs by reducing physical servers, and apply security patches while aligning with risk controls.

Strong scripting and IT-operations experience are essential for on-call support and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with an enterprise RDBMS such as Oracle, DB2 or SQL Server.
• Experience with shell scripting and automation (Bash, PowerShell, Python/Ansible).
• Solid IT operations knowledge including incident and change management.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; capable of explaining technical topics clearly.
• Organised, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities.

• Lead and deliver infrastructure initiatives (platform evergreen, upgrades, standardisation).

• Evaluate new database technologies and run PoCs for safe adoption.
• Provide internal consultancy on database design, resilience and recovery.
• Produce documentation for standards and runbooks; report progress and risks.

Job description

• Lead and deliver infrastructure initiatives (e.g. platform evergreening, upgrades, standardisation, estate hygiene, decommissioning).
• Build and manage database environments, supporting the strategic shift towards reduced physical server deployments and optimised cost.
• Assess and deploy security patches and critical updates, ensuring compliance with internal controls and risk requirements.
• Evaluate new database technologies and features, producing proof-of-concepts, and supporting safe adoption across the estate (including cloud DB services where applicable).
• Provide internal consultancy to GPBW project teams on database design, resilience, performance, backup/recovery, and operational readiness.
• Produce clear and accurate documentation for internal publication (standards, procedures, implementation guides, runbooks).
• Report progress and risks to management with concise updates on delivery status, issues, dependencies, and remediation plans.
• Support change and incident activities including troubleshooting and root cause analysis, taking part in an on‑call/rota model.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

• Strong hands-on experience with at least one enterprise RDBMS, such as:
• Oracle (e.g. RMAN, Data Guard, RAC, Exadata), or
• DB2, or
• SQL Server
• Ability to learn and adopt new database technologies quickly.
• Experience with shell scripting and automation (e.g. Bash, PowerShell, Python/Ansible—depending on platform).
• Strong understanding of IT operations, including incident/change management and controlled production practices.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to explain technical topics clearly to varied audiences.
• Strong organisation skills: methodical, detail‑oriented, able to manage multiple priorities.
• Comfortable working under pressure and to tight deadlines, including out-of-hours support when required.
