Job summary

Bench is seeking an experienced Senior Cloud Platform Engineer – Azure to own Azure platform engineering, infrastructure, reliability, security, automation and cloud optimisation in an enterprise technology environment.

This hands‑on role requires strong production experience across AKS/Kubernetes, IaC, Azure DevOps, networking, identity and hybrid cloud environments, with a focus on high availability and cost efficiency.

Qualifications

• Experience designing and maintaining Microsoft Azure cloud platform solutions in production.
• Hands-on experience with AKS/Kubernetes in enterprise settings.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Cloud Platform Engineer – Azure to join an enterprise technology environment and take ownership of Azure platform engineering, infrastructure, reliability, security, automation, and cloud optimisation.

This is a hands-on platform engineering role for someone with strong production experience across Azure infrastructure, AKS/Kubernetes, Infrastructure-as-Code, Azure DevOps, networking, identity, and hybrid cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain Microsoft Azure cloud platform solutions.
• Manage and troubleshoot Azure infrastructure including networking, identity, compute, storage and cloud-native services.
• Deploy and manage Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) environments, including networking, storage, scaling and security.
• Implement and maintain Azure infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and declarative provisioning.
• Work with Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates or equivalent IaC technologies.
• Support containerised workloads and microservices architectures within Azure.
• Design and maintain highly available, scalable and resilient cloud environments.
• Support hybrid cloud architectures, integrating on-premises infrastructure with Azure.
• Implement automation, monitoring, logging and observability solutions.
• Troubleshoot platform, infrastructure and Kubernetes-related issues.
• Contribute to cloud governance, standards, guardrails and platform standardisation.
• Support disaster recovery, backup, business continuity and high-availability strategies.
• Optimise Azure environments for performance, scalability and cost efficiency through rightsizing and autoscaling.
• Contribute to FinOps and cloud cost optimisation initiatives.
• Work closely with Cloud Architects, DevSecOps and Software Engineering teams.
• Provide technical guidance and support to other engineers where required.
• Contribute to Cloud Centre of Excellence (CCoE) initiatives and enterprise cloud best practices.
• Strong professional experience in Azure Cloud Engineering / Platform Engineering within an enterprise environment.
• Extensive hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure.
• Strong experience with:
• Strong Kubernetes knowledge and production experience.
• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure-as-Code, particularly Terraform, Bicep or ARM.
• Experience with Azure DevOps and CI/CD automation.
• Experience supporting hybrid cloud environments and on-premises-to-Azure integration.
• Understanding of cloud security, governance, reliability and enterprise architecture standards.
• Experience with cloud automation, monitoring, troubleshooting and operational support.
• Good understanding of high availability, disaster recovery and cloud resiliency.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
