Job summary

Sherpany by Datasite is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable Python Django services. You will work across product, frontend, and platform teams to deliver robust APIs with strong security and reliability.

You’ll lead architectural improvements, collaborate on DevOps pipelines using Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and GitHub Actions, and mentor peers to raise the team’s engineering standards and velocity.

Qualifications

• Expert Python with Django and Django REST Framework.
• Strong SQL and PostgreSQL with performance tuning.
• Experience with Celery and message brokers such as RabbitMQ.
• Caching strategies with Redis and cache-aside patterns.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and operate reliable, scalable APIs and services in Python with Django and DRF.
• Lead architectural changes for data modeling, service boundaries, and migrations.
• Collaborate with DevOps on Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Write unit and integration tests to ensure high quality and reliability.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing through talks and docs.

You collaborate across product, frontend, mobile, and platform to ship reliable, scalable services, raise performance baselines, strengthen CI/CD, and simplify architecture, all with a strong security mindset.If you are product-minded, data-driven, and energized by improving systems at scale, you will thrive here.What You'll DoDesign, develop, and operate reliable, scalable APIs and services in Python with Django and Django REST Framework.Lead architectural changes that simplify the system: data modeling improvements, service boundaries, messaging patterns, and zero-downtime migrations.Collaborate with DevOps on pipelines and infrastructure using Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform, and promote trunk-based development and deployment safety.Write and maintain unit and integration tests to ensure high code quality and system reliability.Collaborate with Frontend, Mobile, UX, and Product to shape solutions and negotiate APIs that improve developer experience and user outcomes.Mentor engineers through structured feedback, pairing, and design reviews. Contribute to chapter knowledge sharing through talks and docs.What You BringExpert-level Python with Django and Django REST Framework.
