Job summary

The British Council’s Digital and Technology Directorate seeks an experienced Backend engineering leader to mentor teams, design scalable services, and drive secure, high-performing backend systems.

You will collaborate with product managers, data analysts, and business partners to plan projects, implement services in .NET, Node.js, Python, and orchestrate containers with Docker and Kubernetes, while upholding security, testing, and DevOps practices.

Qualifications

• Demonstrable backend engineering experience designing scalable systems.
• Strong knowledge of backend technologies and architectures.
• Proficiency in .NET, C#, PHP, NodeJS, or Python; frameworks like Symfony/Express/Django.
• Experience with cloud (AWS/Azure) and microservices.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to backend engineers.
• Plan and deliver backend projects with PMs and stakeholders.
• Design, code, review, test, and document backend solutions.
• Ensure security, risk, compliance, and data privacy.
• Develop analytics and reporting capabilities.
