Job summary

Axpo Group is seeking a software engineer to join the Batteries team across Europe. You will architect, develop, and deploy Python back- and front-end applications and integrate the battery optimizer into Axpo's IT infrastructure.

You will enhance our MILP optimization engine for battery projects across different markets, collaborate with internal teams and external providers, and support users with robust engineering practices, CI/CD, testing, and timely software updates.

Qualifications

• University degree in CS/Engineering/Math/Natural Sciences.
• 3+ years of experience in Python or another OO language.
• Experience with backend development in distributed systems using REST APIs and message queues (e.g., FastAPI and Azure Service Bus).
• Infrastructure as code to ship containerized software to the cloud (Terraform, Azure, Docker); GCP a plus.
• CI/CD, code reviews, and automated testing.
• Experience with MILP, Databricks, frontend development, or SQL is a plus.

What you will do:

• Architect, develop, and deploy back- and front-end Python applications, integrating our battery optimizer into Axpo's IT infrastructure

• Enhance our mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) optimization engine, customizing it for battery projects across different countries and markets

• Advise and support team members on software engineering best practices and design patterns

• Collaborate with internal teams across Europe and align with external software providers to ensure seamless system integration

• Serve as a point of contact for internal users of our optimization software, addressing questions and requests

• Coordinate and implement software changes and updates to meet user needs

What you bring & who you are:

• University degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, natural sciences, or a related discipline

• You have 3+ years of experience in Python or another object-oriented language, ideally as a software engineer in the energy sector or a related field

• Experience with backend development in distributed systems using REST APIs and message queues, e.g., FastAPI and Azure Service Bus

• Familiarity with infrastructure as code to ship containerized software to the cloud – ideally Terraform, Azure, and Docker; experience with Google Cloud Platform is a plus

• You're comfortable with modern engineering practices such as CI/CD, code reviews, and automated testing

• Ideally, you bring experience with mathematical optimization (especially MILP), Databricks, frontend development, or SQL
