Job summary

Trax Retail in Kraków is seeking an experienced Android Engineer to step into a technical leadership role while remaining hands‑on with code. You will guide the Android team, shape architecture, mentor engineers, and collaborate with global teams across the US, Poland, Hungary, and Ukraine.

This role offers exposure to Jetpack Compose, on‑device ML, and cross‑platform work with iOS teams, with a path to Tech Lead and broader impact on mobile engineering strategy.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional Android development with Kotlin.
• Deep knowledge of MVVM, Clean Architecture, and multi‑module apps.
• Experience with Jetpack libraries (Compose, Navigation, Room, WorkManager).
• Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical initiatives.
• Experience working in international, distributed teams and strong communication.
• Advanced English language skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain core features of the GoSpotCheck Android app.
• Lead architecture decisions and set code quality standards for the Android team.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, pairing sessions, and guidance.
• Collaborate with iOS, QA, backend, and ML/IR teams across the US, Poland, Hungary, and Ukraine.
• Contribute to cross‑team technical discussions, sprint planning, and roadmap prioritization.
• Drive improvements in build pipelines, testing strategies, and development workflows.
• Experiment with emerging Android technologies, including Jetpack Compose, on‑device ML, and camera/AR integrations.

We are looking for an experienced Android Engineer ready to step into a technical leadership role — someone who combines deep platform expertise with the communication skills and vision to guide a growing mobile team. This is a role where you will shape how our Android and cross-platform mobile engineering operates, while staying hands-on with the code.

Requirements

• Developing and maintaining core features of the GoSpotCheck Android application used by retail field teams worldwide
• Acting as the technical counterpart to the Mobile Engineering Manager — driving architecture decisions, code quality standards, and technical direction for the Android team
• Mentoring and supporting fellow engineers through code reviews, pairing sessions, and technical guidance
• Collaborating closely with iOS, QA, backend, and ML/IR teams across the US, Poland, Hungary, and Ukraine
• Contributing to cross-team technical discussions, sprint planning, and roadmap prioritization
• Identifying and driving improvements in build pipelines, testing strategies, and development workflows
• Experimenting with emerging Android technologies, including Jetpack Compose, on-device ML, and camera/AR integrations

Who You Are

• 5+ years of professional Android development experience with Kotlin.
• Strong understanding of modern Android architecture patterns (MVVM, Clean Architecture, multi-module projects)
• Experience with Jetpack libraries (Compose, Navigation, Room, WorkManager, CameraX)
• Track record of mentoring other engineers or leading technical initiatives.
• Experience working in international, distributed teams
• Excellent communication skills — able to articulate technical trade-offs to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders
• Eagerness to take ownership beyond your own code — team processes, architecture decisions, and delivery outcomes
• English language: Advanced level

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines for mobile (GitHub Actions, Bitrise, Fastlane)
• Familiarity with on-device ML frameworks (TensorFlow Lite, MediaPipe).
• Experience with ARCore or camera-based capture workflows
• Background in retail tech, field service, or enterprise mobile applications.
• Experience profiling and optimizing app performance, battery usage, and network efficiency
• Familiarity with cross-platform considerations (coordinating with iOS/Swift teams on shared features)

Compensation: 20,000 - 28,000 PLN per month.
