Job summary

Aptiv PLC in Kraków seeks a Senior AI/ML Engineer to advance perception systems for autonomous robotic agents. You will work with cameras, radar, and fusion techniques to turn research into production-ready perception with certifiable safety.

You will collaborate with planning, hardware, and product teams to meet performance targets, validate through simulation and real data, and guide deployments in diverse environments. Hybrid work arrangements are available.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master’s degree in Robotics, CS, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or related field.
• Proven experience building scalable AI/ML development pipelines.
• Strong Python proficiency and ML/DL libraries (PyTorch, scikit-learn, OpenCV).
• Knowledge of sensors (camera, radar, LiDAR) and sensor fusion concepts.
• Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Define and develop AI/ML perception algorithms for Camera and Radar across multiple tasks (detection, segmentation).
• Develop multi-sensor fusion to deliver robust perception in variable environments.
• Establish best practices for perception robustness, safety, and predictable failure behavior.
• Shape perception validation strategies, regression testing, and benchmarking using simulation and real-world data.
• Translate customer/operational requirements into performance targets and data needs.
• Evaluate open-source frameworks and third-party SDKs ensuring scalability, maintainability, and license compliance.
• Support PoCs, demos, and early deployments by guiding perception setup and debugging in real environments.

Our Robotics business, focused on Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) and Drones for warehouse, industrial, and adjacent markets is growing and you will be shaping how robots understand their environment, other actors and how reliably the perception can be trusted under real-world conditions.

Your Role

As a Senior AI/ML Engineer you will develop and evolve the advanced perceptions systems critical for autonomous robotic agents. This will involve handling of different sensors, sensor modalities, perception algorithms, and deployment on compute platforms, enabling robust autonomy across diverse environments and robot form factors. You will work closely with planning, safety, hardware, and product teams to turn research-grade perception into production-ready, certifiable systems. In your daily job you will:

• Define and develop AI/ML perception algorithms for multiple sensors (Camera, Radar) and multiple tasks (object detection, segmentation, environment modelling).

• Develop multi-sensor fusion algorithms to provide accurate, robust perception in various challenging environments.

• Establish best practices for perception robustness and AI/ML perception systems that support safety requirements and predictable failure behavior.

• Shape perception validation strategies, regression testing, and performance benchmarking based on simulation data and real word data.

• Translate customer and operational requirements into perception performance targets, AI/ML algorithm decisions, and data requirements.

• Evaluate and integrate open-source perception frameworks and third-party SDKs, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and license compliance.

• Support PoCs, demos, and early deployments by guiding perception setup, tuning, and debugging in real environments.

Your Background

• PhD or Master's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, any other related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

• Proven experience in building scalable AI/ML development pipelines.

• Strong proficiency in Python and hands-on experience with ML/DL and perception libraries such as PyTorch, PyTorch Lightning, scikit-learn, OpenCV, NumPy, Pandas, or similar.

• Strong theoretical and practical understanding of sensors and their modalities (camera, radar, LiDAR), sensor fusion, and environment models.

• Excellent communication skills and ability to explain complex localization perception to cross-functional audiences.

Nice to have

• Experience with perception systems in industrial environments (warehousing, logistics, manufacturing).

• Knowledge of functional safety standards for mobile robotics.

• Experience with continuous improvement and optimization of AI/ML perception models.

• Proficiency with ML platforms and experiment management tools (e.g., MLflow, SageMaker, Databricks, DVC).

• Experience with embedded and heterogeneous computing platforms (NVIDIA, Qualcomm, TI, Renesas).

• Hands-on experience with ROS / ROS 2.

• Experience in fast-paced, high-ambiguity environments.

• Strong background in AI/ML debugging, dataset management, and model training.
