Job summary

Elastic is seeking a Principal AI Engineer to own the end-to-end improvement loop for the Context Engine, coordinating across engineering, data science, and product. You will write production code, design evaluation telemetry, and set the bar for agentic behavior.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering with AI-driven products and production traffic.
• Experience building agents with state and memory and iterating prompts, skills and tool behavior in production.
• Familiarity with MCP, including exposing public MCP servers and tools.
• Experience designing telemetry for AI systems and using it to guide decisions.
• Experience running product experiments end to end: instrumentation and interpretation of results.
• Building products with public APIs and evolving data models while maintaining external contracts.

Responsibilities

• Own the production improvement loop for Context Engine and related components.
• Define safe iteration on agents and skills: versioning, rollout, and guardrails.
• Design telemetry to inform engineering decisions and feed dashboards.
• Collaborate with data science on evaluation strategy and latency/cost metrics.
• Mentor engineers, review designs/PRs, and drive eval-driven development.
