Job summary

Neo Research invites a Lead Research Scientist to steer the safety research agenda and build a program that addresses frontier-model risks. You will lead projects end-to-end, drive rigorous evaluation methods, and collaborate with researchers and engineers to publish impactful findings.

You will cultivate collaborations with AI Safety Institutes and frontier labs, ensuring public research remains rigorous and globally influential as Neo grows.

Qualifications

• Track record of original research in AI safety or related field.
• Strong understanding of frontier-model behaviour and evaluation methods.
• Ability to turn broad problems into concrete research programs and publish results.
• Excellent technical writing and communication with researchers, engineers, and partners.
• Collaborative, hands-on working style in early-stage environments.
• Comfort operating in an evolving research agenda.

Responsibilities

• Set and evolve Neo's research agenda across projects and collaborators.
• Lead major research projects from problem selection to publication.
• Develop rigorous methodologies for observing frontier-model behaviours.
• Mentor researchers, review designs and results, maintain high evidence standards.
• Collaborate with research engineers to build robust experimental systems.
• Build and maintain external collaborations with AI safety institutes and labs.
• Help recruit researchers and shape Neo's research culture.
