Job summary

Neo Research is an independent AI safety research organization focused on frontier risks in capable AI systems. We seek a Research Scientist to own projects end-to-end, from hypothesis through analysis and publication, collaborating with engineers and safety institutions to advance rigorous empirical work.

The role offers substantial academic freedom, opportunities to shape research directions, and the chance to publish results that influence model developers and safety policy globally.

Qualifications

• Track record of original research in AI safety, evaluations, or a closely adjacent field.
• Deep familiarity with frontier model behaviour and elicitation methodology.
• Ability to define a research agenda and drive it to concrete, published output.
• Strong technical writing.
• Comfortable collaborating closely with engineers.
• Comfortable in an ambiguous, early-stage research environment where the questions aren't settled yet.

Responsibilities

• Own research projects end-to-end from questions to publication.
• Develop rigorous evaluations of misalignment and risk in agentic settings.
• Study hard-to-observe behaviors and long-horizon failure modes.
• Assess if methods hold across frontier-model ecosystems.
• Collaborate with research engineers to run reproducible experiments.
• Communicate findings to researchers, model developers, and safety bodies.
