Job summary

Pythian is seeking an experienced Infrastructure/DevOps Engineer to manage AWS-based database infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines. You will own Terraform provisioning for RDS/Aurora and support tooling, while improving security, automation, and incident response. Remote-friendly role with exposure to large-scale environments.

You will collaborate on a fleet-scale platform, drive efficiencies, document processes, and mentor teams on best practices. Strong communication under pressure is essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience with AWS and Terraform in production environments.
• Provisioning AWS infrastructure through a CI/CD pipeline (GitLab, Github, Harness, or equivalent).
• Familiarity with RDS/Aurora operations — backup/restore, replication, DR — at the infrastructure level.

Responsibilities

• Act as the escalation point when clients or internal teams break their Terraform, pipeline, or don’t follow documented processes.
• Write clear Root Cause Analysis (RCA) reports for significant incidents.
• Build and maintain Terraform for provisioning AWS database infrastructure (RDS/Aurora), and the GitLab/Harness pipelines that deploy it.
• Maintain tooling that manages database users and schemas, ensuring integration with databases.
• Automate recurring operational tasks with Python or Go.
• Apply AWS security best practices across managed environments.
• Build and improve incident-response tooling to route support queries automatically.
• Own and improve documentation such as runbooks and disaster recovery procedures.
