Job summary

Motorola Solutions Polska is seeking a seasoned Radio Network Planning Engineer to design and refine radio networks for mission-critical communications. You will create coverage and frequency plans, produce detailed RF network layouts, and present solutions to customers across APAC, EMEA and LACR.

You will work with HTZ/Atoll and GIS tools, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and support pre- and post-sales activities.

Qualifications

  • Ideal candidate has 3+ years' experience planning mobile radio networks.
  • Interest in radio communications and GIS is important.
  • Willingness to work with remote teams across APAC, EMEA and LACR.
  • Ability to write clear and accurate technical reports.
  • Strong communication skills and professional relationship building.

Responsibilities

  • Pre-Sale: Discuss coverage requirements with potential customers.
  • Create initial coverage and frequency plans using planning tools.
  • Evaluate tender requirements and contribute to proposals.
  • Prepare input for proposals: maps, statistics, site configurations.
  • Present solutions to customers and liaise with sites and engineers post-sale.
  • Create detailed RF network plans with coverage maps and frequency plans.
  • Support coverage optimization including site visits as required.
  • Analyse drive test data for optimization and reporting.

Department Overview

The Radio Network Services (RNS) team provides radio networking planning services to the regional systems and field engineering teams within the International region (APAC, EMEA and LACR). The services provided include: radio coverage predictions; coverage optimisation; traffic planning; frequency planning; drive test data analysis and reports; GIS Data sourcing/conversion; microwave link planning; customer presentations and basic RF training. Services are provided throughout the lifecycle of a radio system from pre-sale design through deployment to in-service support.

Job Description

The Radio Network Planning Engineer reports to the RNS Manager and is responsible for the creation of radio network plans for mission critical radio communications networks. These networks are typically for government public safety organisations (e.g. Police, Fire Services, Border Guards, etc.) but also include other sectors such as public transport (Airports, Metros, etc.) and utilities (e.g. water and electricity distribution). Our customers rely on our radio communications network in the moments that matter and we help to ensure the safety of both workers and citizens. The networks typically employ Land Mobile Radio (LMR) technologies such as APCO25, TETRA or DMR.

Responsibilities
  • Pre-Sale Discussing coverage requirements with potential customers
  • Creating initial coverage and frequency plans using radio planning tools
  • Evaluating tender requirements
  • Creating input for proposals (coverage maps, descriptions, coverage statistics, site configurations)
  • Presenting solutions to customers
  • Post-Sale Liaising with site acquisition teams, transmission planning and systems engineers
  • Creating detailed RF network plans including coverage maps, frequency plans, neighbour lists, equipment lists, and coverage verification plans
  • Support coverage optimisation activities including site visits as required
  • Analysing drive test data for optimisation and coverage acceptance and producing reports
Basic Requirements Specific Knowledge and Skills

Ideally candidates will have 3+ years of experience in planning mobile radio networks (either commercial mobile phone networks or private LMR networks). The following are the most important attributes for the role:

  • An interest in radio communications and radio propagation
  • An interest in mapping and Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
  • A desire and enthusiasm to learn and to become an expert in your field
  • IT literate and an aptitude for working with complex software applications
  • Fluent in English and Polish
  • A demonstrated ability to write clear and accurate technical reports
  • Excellent communications skills and the confidence to present solutions to customers
  • A willingness to establish and develop professional relationships remotely as colleagues and customers will be located throughout APAC, EMEA and LACR
The following skills, whilst not essential, would be advantageous
  • A track record of successfully planning Radio Access Networks (RANs) for large mobile communications networks
  • Proficient with at least one radio network planning software application (e.g. HTZ Communications, Atoll, etc).
  • Proficient with GIS tools such as GlobalMapper, QGIS or MapInfo
  • Good understanding of mobile radio technologies (3GPP 2G/3G/4G and/or ETSI TETRA and DMR)
  • Hands-on experience of RAN implementation (e.g. site surveys, site RF design, installation and commissioning, drive testing)
  • Experience of transmission network planning including microwave link planning including use of PathLoss
  • Experience of radio planning in a pre-sales environment (e.g. proposal response, customer presentations, etc)
