Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of R&D or engineering experience, preferably in HV equipment.
• Solid mechanical knowledge in electrical insulators or HV components.
• Excellent communication in English, both written and spoken.
• Strong knowledge of IEC/IEEE/ISO/ASTM standards.
• Experience in finite element analysis and ANSYS.
• Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to collaborate with global technical teams.

Responsibilities

• Establish mechanical simulation models for transformer components (bushings, tap-changers, measurement devices).
• Conduct static/dynamic, seismic, short-circuit, and thermal-structure coupling analyses.
• Verify mechanical performance per IEC/IEEE/ISO/ASTM standards; issue simulation reports.
• Develop internal tools for mechanical evaluation; support R&D and mass production.
• Lead design reviews and collaborate with supply chain for manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
• Take project leadership roles and mentor junior colleagues.
• Act as SME and share knowledge to foster collaboration and innovation.

The opportunity

Hitachi Energy is seeking a Design Engineer for the Business Unit Transformers to join our innovative and forward-thinking Global Product Care team for Insulation and Components. You will play a crucial role in the development and design of innovative products and systems that meet our customer needs and industry standards. You will collaborate with cross functional teams and factories globally to ensure project specifications are met while adhering to industry standards and design best practices. Your expertise in engineering principles and practices will contribute to optimize designs for performance, functionality, and sustainability.

How you will make an impact

• You will establish mechanical simulation models for transformer components such as bushings, tap-changers and measurement devices, conduct static/dynamic mechanics, model, seismic, short-circuit impact and thermal-structure coupling simulation analysis.
• You will conduct mechanical performance verification in accordance with IEC, IEEE, GB and other international & domestic standards, issue professional simulation reports, provide technical support for product R&D, type test and mass production.
• You will continue to develop internal tools for mechanical evaluations, participate in industrial technical exchanges. Support factories troubleshooting in your domain of expertise and collaborate with global team on evaluation of new R&D solution.
• You will be responsible for ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.
• Collaborate with the supply chain team to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective, selecting optimal materials and components.
• Evaluate and select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes.
• Conduct thorough design reviews and verifications, implementing modifications to elevate project quality.
• Take on project leadership responsibilities or play a key role within project teams, while supporting and mentoring junior colleagues
• Act as a subject matter expert, supporting colleagues and sharing knowledge to foster collaboration and innovation within the team

Your background

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
• Minimum 3 years of experience in R&D or engineering, preferably in high voltage equipment or components
• Solid mechanical knowledge, ideally in the field of electrical insulators or high-voltage components
• Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken
• Should have good understanding of IEC /IEEE/ISO/ASTM Standards.
• Experience in the finite element analysis and in the use of the ANSYS software
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to speak with and work together with the technical teams in different parts of the world.
• Proactive attitude, self-motivated and with a strong sense of ownership.
• Open to change, feedback and continuous improvement.
