Job summary

Billigence is seeking an experienced Microsoft Purview Unified Catalog Consultant to support a real estate client on a 6–8 week governance and data catalogue engagement. You will work independently, quickly assimilate the existing Purview setup and drive delivery from day one.

The role focuses on accelerating the Purview implementation, building governance domains, assets, and glossaries, and ensuring accurate metadata and lineage across the client's data estate. This is not a greenfield project.

Responsibilities

• Review and extend the existing Microsoft Purview Unified Catalog.
• Scan data warehouse and source systems, including CRM, to bring metadata and lineage into Purview.
• Set up and populate governance domains.
• Organise data assets, glossary terms and ownership within each domain.
• Build and maintain the business glossary.
• Work with Data Owners and Data Stewards to agree definitions and accountability.
• Assign owners and stewards across domains and assets.
• Apply classifications including Public, Internal, Private, and PII.
• Improve catalogue structure and quality; support metadata, lineage and governance activities.
• Collaborate with business and tech stakeholders to ensure catalogue content is accurate and usable.
• Accelerate Purview implementation and deliver a structured, usable data catalogue.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Microsoft Purview Unified Catalog Consultant to support a client in the real estate and housing sector on a short, time-boxed Data Governance and Data Catalogue engagement.

The client has already started building its data catalogue in Microsoft Purview and needs an experienced consultant to come in, quickly understand the existing setup and accelerate delivery.

This is not a greenfield implementation. You will be expected to work independently, get up to speed quickly and start delivering from day one.

The initial engagement is expected to run for approximately 6–8 weeks.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone with:

• Recent, hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview Unified Catalog
• Strong experience building and curating data catalogues
• Experience with data domains, assets, business glossaries, ownership and stewardship
• Hands-on experience with metadata management
• Experience with data lineage and source-system scanning
• Experience applying data classifications such as Public, Internal, Private and PII
• Experience working directly with Data Owners and Data Stewards
• Ability to work with business stakeholders to agree definitions, ownership and governance
• Strong understanding of Data Governance and Metadata Management
• Ability to quickly understand an existing Purview environment and accelerate delivery
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills
• Ability to work independently and deliver tangible outcomes within a short engagement

What You'll Be Doing

• Review and build upon the client's existing Microsoft Purview Unified Catalog
• Scan the client's data warehouse and source systems, including their CRM, to bring technical metadata and lineage into Purview
• Set up and populate the client's governance domains
• Organise data assets, glossary terms and ownership within each domain
• Build and maintain the business glossary
• Work with Data Owners and Data Stewards to agree definitions and accountability
• Assign appropriate owners and stewards across domains and assets
• Apply classifications including: Public, Internal, Private, PII
• Improve the structure and quality of the existing catalogue
• Support metadata, lineage and governance activities
• Work closely with business and technical stakeholders to ensure catalogue content is accurate and usable
• Accelerate the existing Purview implementation and leave the client with a structured and usable data catalogue

Essential Experience

• Proven, recent hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview Unified Catalog
• Experience curating a data catalogue, not simply configuring scans
• Experience with business glossaries, metadata, data domains and data assets
• Experience with data ownership and stewardship
• Experience with data classification and PII
• Understanding of data lineage and technical metadata
• Experience working with Data Owners, Data Stewards and business stakeholders
• Strong Data Governance experience
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills
• Ability to work independently within an existing enterprise environment

Important

We are specifically looking for candidates with recent Microsoft Purview Unified Catalog experience.

Candidates whose Purview experience is primarily focused on compliance, DLP or Information Protection, rather than data cataloguing and governance, will not be suitable.

Desirable Experience

• Experience presenting catalogue content outside Purview
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric
• Experience building catalogue experiences using Power BI or Fabric apps
• Ability to communicate technical catalogue information in clear business language
• Experience scanning CRM and data warehouse sources into Purview
