Job summary

ABC Fitness is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the architecture and hands-on modernization of critical software systems. You will set engineering direction, work across APIs, data access, and tests, and stay close to implementation while ensuring compatibility and business continuity.

You will remain an individual contributor, influence teams through strong architectural judgment, and partner with product, security, and data teams to deliver durable software.

Qualifications

• Deep backend and distributed-systems engineering experience across production services and APIs.
• Ability to move from architecture into code, configuration, instrumentation, and diagnosis.
• Capability to define service boundaries, ownership, migration strategies and practical decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead modernization of legacy systems into domain-oriented software.
• Contribute hands-on to critical implementations, refactoring, code reviews, and production fixes.
• Design clear domain models and APIs with strong contracts and evolution plans.
• Guide framework/runtime upgrades, modularization, and scalable architectures.
• Diagnose and fix concurrency, data access, and performance issues in production.
