Job summary

ABC Fitness is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the architecture and hands-on modernization of critical software systems. You will shape target architecture, define module boundaries, and guide migrations while remaining close to implementation in backend code.

You will work across APIs, data access, and tests to ensure durable software and business continuity. You will contribute directly to implementation, perform code reviews, and influence teams through architecture and production

Qualifications

Substantial backend and distributed-systems design, build, operate, and evolve production systems with APIs and data flows.
Hands-on implementation depth across backend stacks and production systems.
Ability to move ideas into shippable software solutions beyond tooling choices.
Strong judgment for service boundaries, domain ownership, and migration strategies.
Commitment to reliability, performance, and quality through testing and diagnostics.

Responsibilities

Lead software architecture and modernization of legacy applications into domain-oriented software.
Stay hands-on in code, contributing to critical implementations and production fixes.
Design clear domain models, ownership boundaries, and service contracts.
Modernize frameworks, runtime upgrades, and deployment strategies for stability.
Improve data access patterns, caching, and messaging while preserving history and audit needs.
Raise code quality through strong testing, review, and static analysis.
