Job summary

Box is seeking a Platform Engineer II to strengthen our desktop CI and foundations. You will design and maintain tooling for mobile, desktop, and web product development, with a focus on scalable CI/CD pipelines and automation.

You will collaborate with engineers to reduce toil and improve deployment reliability across platforms. You will build in-house tooling, participate in design discussions, and apply AI-assisted tooling to optimize workflows.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of software development or DevOps/platform engineering experience.
• Proficient in at least one modern programming language (e.g. Python, C#, Swift, Ruby, TypeScript, Go).
• Knowledge of software design principles.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineering teams to build, maintain, and improve tooling and frameworks for mobile, desktop, and web product development, with a near-term focus on mobile.
• Create and maintain in-house tools to automate repetitive tasks and improve operational efficiency.
• Work with CI/CD pipelines, code-signing, release, deployment, crash metric ingestion, and automation frameworks.

What you will do:

You’ll collaborate with engineering teams to build, maintain, and improve tooling and frameworks supporting mobile, desktop, and web product development, with a near‑term focus on mobile.

You’ll create and maintain in-house tools that automate repetitive tasks and improve operational efficiency.

You’ll work with diverse systems - from CI pipelines and code‑signing to release, deployment, crash metric ingestion, and automation frameworks-to solve key team productivity issues.

You’lldig deep and investigate the pain‑points in our development processes and systems. Then we’ll fix them!

You’ll lead and participate in design, planning, and architecture discussions.

You’ll leverage AI‑assisted tooling pragmatically (e.g., configuration refactoring, scripted upgrades) to eliminate toil.

You’ll research and propose various design approaches and present corresponding pros and cons to fellow engineers and management.

You’ll champion best practices in security, compliance, and artifact governance within the software delivery lifecycle.

• You’ll participate in our on‑call rotation, available at all times while on‑call to help respond to and triage any issues that arise.

Who you are:

You have 2+ years of software development or DevOps/platform engineering experience.

You are proficient in at least one modern programming language (e.g. Python, C#, Swift, Ruby, TypeScript, Go), and have knowledge of software design principles.

You have practical experience managing jobs and pipelines with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, Bitrise or GitHub Actions.

You have practical experience with virtualization (VMWare, Hyper‑V, Parallels) and containerization tools (Docker, Kubernetes) for build infrastructure.

You have practical experience with build tooling in mobile ecosystems (Fastlane, Gradle, Xcode command‑line tools).

You have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

You have strong design and analytical skills.

You are curious, open, and pragmatic, leveraging new tools (including AI) where they meaningfully improve outcomes.

You are familiar with modern unit‑testing and functional‑testing frameworks and methodologies across mobile and/or web platforms.

You have a history of collaboration and success in small, high‑velocity agile teams.

You enjoy building tools and frameworks for other engineers.

You have excellent problem solving and debugging skills.

You assess, communicate, and complete project milestones with your manager and team members in a time‑sensitive manner.

Bonus:

Experience with build tooling in web ecosystems (webpack, Vite, npm, Yarn).

Experience with mobile code signing, provisioning profiles, App Store Connect, or Google Play Console.

Experience with web build and deployment pipelines and cloud hosting environments (e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure).

Experience with Unix/Linux system administration and troubleshooting.

Experience with React Native build pipelines, Metro bundler, and cross‑platform release workflows.

Familiarity with observability and crash/performance monitoring tooling (e.g. Datadog, Crashlytics, New Relic).

Experience with Node.js.
