Job summary

Referment is seeking a Principal Architect to own the architecture of the entire platform, defining services, data, integrations and deployment boundaries. Reporting to the CTO, you will set technical direction, trade-offs and ensure the architecture scales with the business.

You will lead the transformation from on-premises to cloud, guide MSSQL to PostgreSQL migrations, write architectural decisions, embed AI as a core concern, and stay close to delivery to prevent drift.

Qualifications

• Ownership of a distributed, data-heavy platform architecture in production.
• Experience migrating a live system without downtime and explaining costs and lessons.
• Ability to read implementation code, not only diagrams, and justify decisions.
• Ability to defend architecture to engineers and bank architects with clear trade-offs.
• Hands-on experience with Azure, Kafka, Kubernetes and Helm charts at scale.

Responsibilities

• Define and own the target architecture and service boundaries for the platform.
• Lead the transformation from on-premises to cloud and migrate databases.
• Document architectural decisions using RFCs and architecture decision records.
• Embed AI as a core architectural concern across services and pipelines.
• Explain architecture to engineers and bank-side architects with credibility.
