Job summary

University of Silesia in Katowice seeks a PhD student for the project Drivers of polyploid genome evolution. Work spans molecular cytogenetics, FISH, and bioinformatics to study rDNA evolution, karyotype changes, and genome organization in Amaranthus, under NCN management. The position is associated with the Doctoral School and includes a 48‑month scholarship.

Qualifications

• MSc in Biology, Biotechnology, or related disciplines.
• Experience in molecular cytogenetics, molecular biology or related field.
• Proficiency in English; ability to present seminars and publish.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Cultivate plant material and prepare samples.
• Analyze chromosome numbers and variation within/among species.
• Isolate DNA and clone rDNA sequences.
• Prepare chromosome spreads including 3D polyacrylamide methods.
• Perform FISH and immunostaining; image analysis.
• Conduct epifluorescence/confocal microscopy and data interpretation.
• Participate in bioinformatic analyses and manuscript preparation.
• Design and apply oligo probes for FISH.
• Assist in data analysis and conference presentations.
