Job summary

MacGregor in Gdańsk, Poland is seeking a Mechanical Designer to own equipment items from concept to delivery, adhering to contract requirements. You will create layouts, handle ship or shore interfaces, and ensure design deliverables meet quality, cost and time targets in a hands-on, collaborative environment.

The role requires 3D mechanical design experience, proficiency in Autodesk Inventor (AutoCAD a plus), and a Mechanical Engineering degree.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Create detailed layout designs, adapt engineering concepts to contract requirements, and manage structural interfaces with ship or shore installations
• Analyze equipment kinematics, identify operational load cases, and selection of suitable hydraulic or electric drives
• Prepare models, technical drawings, and production documentation
• Plan and follow up on your allocated design tasks, estimating engineering hours and reporting schedule deviations to project leads
• Collaborate closely with hydraulic, electrical, and structural analysis engineers to coordinate component choices and calculation results
• Take part in tendering, procurement, and client technical discussions by providing accurate design data and documentation

We are looking for a Mechanical Designer to take ownership of designing dedicated equipment items according to technical contract requirements. In this role, you will make and adapt concepts, handle ship or shore interfaces, and ensure the technical correctness of your design deliverables within agreed quality, cost, and time targets. It is a hands-on position involving close collaboration with cross-functional project teams, strength analysts, and electrical or hydraulic specialists.

Reporting directly to the Deputy Design Team Manager. This position is based in Gdańsk, Poland.

What You'll Need To Succeed

To succeed in this role, you should have solid hands-on experience in 3D mechanical design and a clear understanding of production methods. You need to be comfortable managing your own design scope independently while keeping project deadlines in focus. Effective communication and teamwork skills are essential, as you will regularly align with internal discipline leads, strength analysts, and cross-functional teams.

Ideally you have

• B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field
• Practical experience in mechanical design in the marine, or heavy engineering industry
• Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor, with AutoCAD knowledge as a strong plus
• Solid understanding of mechanical design principles, production processes, kinematics, and technical documentation and regulations
• Ability to work independently on assigned design scopes, collaborating effectively in a team
• Good command of spoken and written English
