Job summary

Moderna's Warsaw technology hub is seeking a Linux Systems Engineer to own enterprise Linux infrastructure across on‑premises and cloud platforms, focusing on performance, security, and reliability.

You will automate operations with Ansible, Python, Terraform, and other IaC tools, collaborate with cybersecurity teams, and contribute to observability and incident response efforts while staying close to the latest in automation and AI tooling.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field.
• 3–5 years of professional experience supporting Linux in a mixed OS environment.
• Strong understanding of multiple Linux distros including core services/daemons.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot system, network, and performance issues.
• Experience with patch management, endpoint protection, compliance and server hardening.
• Familiarity with hybrid multi‑cloud environments and virtualization technologies.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and collaboration skills across global teams.

Responsibilities

• Serving as the technical owner of enterprise Linux systems deployed across on‑premises and cloud platforms.
• Designing, configuring, and maintaining Linux systems that support research and production operations.
• Performing root cause analysis and advanced troubleshooting across system, network, and authentication layers.
• Ensuring system performance and availability through monitoring and configuration management.
• Automating infrastructure operations using shell scripting, Ansible, Python, Terraform, or other IaC tools.
• Integrating Linux with Active Directory using realmd/sssd/winbind and configuring Kerberos, LDAP, TLS/SSL.
• Supporting containerized workloads leveraging Docker, Podman, and Kubernetes.
• Implementing and maintaining storage solutions including LVM, iSCSI, and NFS.
• Partnering with cybersecurity teams to ensure compliance and security tooling integration.
• Contributing to observability efforts using Prometheus, Dynatrace, or Splunk.
• Developing implementation plans, test procedures, and scripts for operational readiness.
• Maintaining documentation and up‑to‑date system inventories; participating in on‑call rotations.

This role is part of our Poland-based technology hub and supports the critical infrastructure behind Moderna’s research and pharmaceutical production systems. As a Linux Systems Engineer, you’ll join a team of experienced professionals responsible for the end‑to‑end engineering, operation, and optimization of our Linux server environment. You’ll bring hands‑on technical expertise in enterprise Linux distributions, automation, and system integration, with a focus on performance, availability, and security. Here’s What You Will Do

Your key responsibilities will be:

• Serving as the technical owner of enterprise Linux systems (Amazon Linux, Ubuntu, RHEL) deployed across on‑premises and cloud platforms (VMware, AWS, Azure).
• Designing, configuring, and maintaining Linux systems that support both research and production operations.
• Performing root cause analysis and advanced troubleshooting across system, network, and authentication layers.
• Ensuring system performance and availability through proactive monitoring and configuration management.
• Automating infrastructure operations using tools such as shell scripting, Ansible, Python, Terraform, or other infrastructure‑as‑code frameworks.

Your Responsibilities Will Also Include:

• Integrating Linux systems with Active Directory using tools such as realmd, sssd, and winbind.
• Configuring Kerberos, LDAP, NSS, PAM, TLS/SSL, keytabs, and SPNs.
• Supporting containerized workloads leveraging Docker, Podman, and Kubernetes.
• Implementing and maintaining storage solutions including LVM, iSCSI, and NFS, emphasizing performance and resilience.
• Partnering closely with cybersecurity teams to maintain compliance and integrate with Moderna’s security software suite.
• Contributing to observability efforts using Prometheus, Dynatrace, or Splunk.
• Developing implementation plans, test procedures, and scripts for operational readiness.
• Maintaining clear documentation, diagrams, and up‑to‑date system inventories.
• Participating in on‑call rotations and addressing escalated incidents.

Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications)

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)

• Linux certifications such as RHCSA/RHCE, LFCS/LFCE, or LPIC.
• Industry certifications: AWS, CISSP, CISM, ITIL.
• Experience in regulated or security‑sensitive environments (e.g., GxP, DISA‑STIG, CIS, PCI).
• Ability to work independently, develop long term strategic Infrastructure enterprise goals.
