Job description

Techtive Games is looking for a creative and driven Level Designer to join our team and help shape the world of our open world survival debut game Ardem, as we move into full production.

In this role, you will be responsible for designing and building complete Points of Interest from concept to final, playable state. You will work directly in Unreal Engine 5, using existing assets and tools, and collaborate closely with our Level Design Lead to create believable, atmospheric, and readable spaces that support exploration and environmental storytelling.

Techtive Games is an ambitious indie studio based in Germany with a close knit team that focuses on building deep, interconnected gameplay systems and immersive, authentic worlds. We value creativity, ownership, and personal growth. Rather than working through rigid ticket pipelines, our team members are encouraged to actively shape systems, contribute ideas, and grow together not only on Ardem, but on future projects as well.

If you enjoy taking responsibility for certain aspects of the game, are passionate about working on or playing open world survival games, and want to grow alongside a collaborative, motivated team, we’d love to hear from you.

Tasks
  • Taking ownership of assigned Points of Interest, from early concept to final in-game implementation
  • Creating location concepts based on provided information and direction (concepts may be sketches, blockouts, or other formats that suit your workflow)
  • Implementing and polishing locations directly in Unreal Engine 5 using existing assets
  • Ensuring levels are fully playable, readable, and visually coherent within the open world
  • Iterating on your work based on feedback and improving locations through multiple passes
  • Actively contributing ideas for environmental storytelling, atmosphere, and spatial composition
  • Collaborating closely with the Level Design Lead and the team to ensure consistency across the world
Requirements
  • 3–5 years of experience as a Level Designer or in a comparable role
  • Strong experience working directly in Unreal Engine 5
  • Solid understanding of level design fundamentals such as flow, readability, scale, and composition
  • Experience designing both interior and exterior spaces
  • Ability to work independently, take feedback constructively, and iterate efficiently
  • A strong sense for atmosphere and environmental storytelling
  • Comfortable working in an open-world setup with existing tools and assets
Bonus Skills
  • Experience with World Partition, Data Layers and Level Instances
  • Familiarity with PCG (Procedural Content Generation) workflows in Unreal Engine
  • Basic knowledge of materials or shaders
  • Experience working on indie or small-team productions
Working Model
  • Fully remote
  • Freelance, with a full time option for candidates based in Germany
  • Flexible working hours with a strong focus on ownership and trust
  • Direct collaboration within a small, focused team
Benefits
  • Work on Ardem, highly anticipated survival game and set a new benchmark
  • Small team with high impact, results-driven mindset and fast decision-making
  • High ownership and creative freedom
  • Flexible working hours (results > green dots)
