Job description

Powering the agentic revolution in travel. Sabre is an AI-native technology leader, backed by one of the world’s largest travel data clouds. Built on an open, modular, cloud-native architecture, Sabre serves as the backbone for both established leaders and bold, new disruptors, guiding them to the next age of travel retailing through intelligent, connected, and personalized experiences. With AI at its core and operating at unparalleled scale, Sabre transforms insights into innovation, empowering airlines, hoteliers, agencies and other partners to retail, distribute and fulfill travel worldwide.

Sabre is looking for a highly technical Principal Product Owner to lead our API design governance, with a specialized focus on Agentic-Ready architectures. In this role, you will be responsible for the product vision, standardization, and execution of our API portfolio Design and Governance framework, ensuring it meets the highest standards for both human developers and artificial intelligence.

Your mission is to enable Sabre teams deliver a strong Developer and Agent Experience (AX) across our ecosystem. You will establish the governance structures that dictate how Sabre develops, deploys, documents, and measures the effectiveness of APIs in the AI era.

Treating our APIs as products, you will champion documentation strategies that empower customers globally to rapidly integrate our services without frustration. As a Principal Product Owner, you will drive transformation programs that migrate legacy protocols (like SOAP) to modern architectures (REST, RPC, and Agentic) while coaching API designers to improve consumer adoption.

This role requires a comprehensive development background, deep technical curiosity, and the strategic foresight to prepare Sabre’s platform for an LLM-driven future.

Role and Responsibilities

API Governance & Agentic Standards Strategy: Define and enforce Sabre API governance standards across the organization, establishing definitive methodologies for API design reviews. Establish and govern Agentic-Ready API design standards, ensuring our ecosystem architecture directly aligns with business intent and simplifies complex internal orchestrations. Set strategic guardrails for secure and efficient AI integrations, addressing critical factors such as context window limits, payload optimization, and prompt security. Enforce structural rules for API payloads to guarantee that Large Language Models can reliably parse, reason over, and interact with our data. Coach API teams during design reviews, driving quality with a focus on consumer adoption and overall consistency across Sabre's portfolio.

Documentation & Developer Experience (DX): Champion the philosophy that APIs are products, advocating for intuitive, highly curated, and self-serve external documentation. Oversee the strategy for API examples, ensuring documentation efficiently covers the vast majority of critical developer and agent use cases. Govern documentation quality specifically optimized for LLM consumption, setting standards that eliminate ambiguity and prevent model misinterpretation. Mandate standards for scenario-rich, realistic examples that provide clear context and guidance for both human developers and AI agents. Oversee the production of supplemental Developer artifacts that accelerate integration, including User Guides, interactive collections, Migration Guides, and Workflow demonstrations.

Technical Transformation & Execution: Be a key player in transformation programs, moving legacy standards (e.g., SOAP) to modern RESTful, RPC, and Agentic-Ready API ecosystems. Oversee the creation of well-organized OpenAPI Specification files and confirm they meet strict quality test thresholds. Guarantee backwards compatibility, versioned changes, and safe architectural practices to ensure stable behavior for agent retries. Analyze, triage, and troubleshoot complex architectural API issues across a geographically distributed engineering organization.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Core Experience: 7+ years of comprehensive software development and technical product management experience.

Highly Sought After: Direct experience within the last 12 months bringing agentic/AI solutions to market, specifically defining the standards, documentation, and measurement frameworks for AI-driven tools. Proven track record of setting up API governance structures and cross-company quality initiatives.

Hands‑on experience dealing with both legacy and newer API standards (SOAP, REST, gRPC/RPC) and successfully leading transformation programs to elevate company platforms to modern standards.

Skills & Competencies: Deep technical expertise in producing OpenAPI Specification files and working with API-First Service Frameworks. Strong understanding of LLM constraints, including token limits, prompt security, and JSON payload parsing capabilities. Ability to enforce consistent data taxonomy, standard naming conventions, and scalable self-referencing patterns. Experience ensuring documentation is written clearly to support a global developer audience. Comfort navigating a multi-stakeholder environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams of product managers, architects, and subject-matter experts to curate API documentation. Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to confidently present technical strategies to large groups and executive leadership. Bachelors/Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical fields.
