Job summary

Euroclear UK and International is seeking a Java Technical Lead to drive high-quality technical solutions and mentor junior engineers. You will lead the migration to a modern event-based, microservice architecture using Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, Docker and Kubernetes in a hybrid cloud-ready environment.

You will collaborate with Solution Architects and Engineering Lead to ensure compliant designs, performance tuning, and effective delivery across platforms.

Qualifications

• Proven hands-on Java development with Spring Boot and microservices.
• Experience leading delivery in an Agile environment.
• Strong understanding of event-driven architectures and messaging.
• Unix/Linux deployment experience.
• Profiling and performance tuning skills.

Responsibilities

• Contributing to the creation of a new team of IT professionals and providing technical leadership
• Leading delivery of a coherent end-to-end IT solution that meets both functional and non-functional requirements
• Working as part of an Agile development team to deliver the migration of the legacy application to a new event-based and service-oriented architecture solution
• Ensuring that the IT solution complies with the Enterprise engineering and architecture standards.
• Ensuring end-to-end consistency of solution delivery across platforms and teams by, for instance, organising walkthroughs of the solution with delivery teams.
• Ensuring that the solution meets guidelines and standards for design and development
• Undertaking hands‑on development and providing technical guidance, coaching and mentoring to your team members
• Potential for line management

Division: Group Business Solutions (GBS)

Euroclear UK and International (EUI) is embarking on an exciting multi-year business transformation programme, with technology change at its heart. Group Business Solutions (GBS) is the Euroclear entity that provides technology delivery services to EUI and is currently in the early stages of delivering a modern, Java microservice-based implementation to replace the existing platform. The new platform will utilise Kafka, Docker and Kubernetes, under the management of the OpenShift container platform and will adhere to the strategy of developing “cloud-ready” microservices, suitable for a potential future migration to the public cloud.

GBS seeks a talented Java Technical Lead to help drive high-quality technical solutions, whilst mentoring and developing more junior team members.

Responsibilities:

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have previously performed a technical lead role and have strong demonstrable solutions design and development skills.

Requirements:

The successful candidate will have strong hands‑on experience of:

• Extensive experience in Core Java development and common frameworks such as Spring Boot
• Experience of line management
• Developing services/micro-services in Java
• Event driven architecture and messaging technologies (Kafka, MQ…)
• Object‑Oriented design
• Developing and deploying on Unix or Linux
• Profiling and performance tuning
• Testing tools and frameworks (JUnit, Mockito, Cucumber, etc.)

• Strong technical leadership and organisational skills.
• Strong interpersonal effectiveness and communication skills.
• Effective and creative problem‑solving skills with the ability to resolve issues or identify the correct internal resources to assist.

The Group Business Solutions (GBS) division ensures the competitiveness of Euroclear by delivering reliable and sustainable IT solutions for the financial securities markets. Our technical teams deliver new IT solutions and improve existing applications for both our internal and external clients. We deploy changes into the production environment in a controlled and structured way that doesn't compromise production stability and we ensure applicative production support.
