Job summary

Sowelo Consulting sp. z o.o. sp. k. is seeking a Backend Lead for a fully remote, international role. You will own the core backend for social and dating apps, lead a senior team, and turn product goals into clear technical roadmaps and reliable deployments.

You will hands-on code and design while modernising the architecture on a high-traffic Rails platform, with emphasis on performance, caching, and real-time features at scale on AWS.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional backend development experience with leadership.
• Experience owning backend architecture for a mobile-first, consumer-facing app.
• Strong hands-on expertise with OO languages; Ruby on Rails preferred.
• Experience building and scaling high-traffic systems (Over 10k+ DAU) focusing on performance and reliability.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, relational databases, caching, and performance optimization.
• Practical experience with cloud environments (AWS) and collaboration with DevOps.
• Excellent communication skills to explain technical topics to non-technical stakeholders.
• Background in startup or fast-moving product companies with changing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of backend engineers (4–5), including 1:1s and performance management.
• Translate product goals into technical roadmaps, sprint plans, and backend priorities.
• Own backend architecture and technical vision for mobile-first apps used by thousands of daily users.
• Drive implementation of new features with cross-functional teams (iOS/Android, Product, Data, DevOps).
• Make architectural decisions around scalability, performance, reliability, data flows, and AWS infra.
