Job summary

AMD in Gdańsk is seeking a Lab Engineer to establish and operate a hardware validation environment for security platform prototypes, focusing on telemetry and PMCs.

You will develop automated test harnesses, collect labeled datasets, and ensure lab systems are configured, imaged, and maintained to support ML engineering workflows.

This role requires 4+ years in hardware validation, strong Python/C++ skills, and on-site work in Gdańsk with strict procedures and safety practices.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of hands-on experience in hardware validation, silicon bring-up, system validation, or a comparable technical role.
  • Practical understanding of x86-64 CPU microarchitecture and hardware performance-monitoring infrastructure.
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, or validating low-level processor or system telemetry, such as hardware performance counters, instruction-based sampling data, system traces, or equivalent measurements.
  • Strong Python and/or C/C++ skills, with practical experience developing test automation, validation frameworks, or repeatable data-collection workflows.
  • Hands-on experience configuring, debugging, and maintaining physical test systems or complex hardware/software validation environments.
  • Experience with virtualization, system imaging, clean-state restoration, or isolated test environments.
  • Working knowledge of Windows system administration and debugging in a validation or laboratory environment.
  • Ability to define and follow rigorous safety, access-control, data-handling, and operational procedures.
  • Ability to prepare clear test specifications, lab procedures, hardware configuration records, defect reports, and reproduction steps.
  • Ability to work regularly on-site in Gdańsk and independently own the operation of a physical lab environment.
  • University degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or an equivalent field.

Responsibilities

  • Configure, operate, and maintain physical AMD PRO lab systems and isolated virtual environments used for security validation.
  • Develop automated test harnesses that safely execute approved test workloads and capture CPU telemetry, including PMC events, instruction-based sampling traces, and instruction-mix data.
  • Establish repeatable system-imaging, configuration, recovery, and clean-state restoration procedures.
  • Instrument lab systems to collect and validate hardware performance-counter data against expected system behavior and known threat-related behavioral patterns.
  • Prepare representative, reproducible, and correctly labeled telemetry datasets for the ML engineering workstream.
  • Execute functional and performance qualification tests across relevant AMD platforms and system configurations.
  • Define and maintain lab operating procedures, access controls, test specifications, hardware configurations, and asset lifecycle records.
  • Use laboratory instrumentation and platform-debugging tools to investigate hardware, firmware, system, and telemetry anomalies.
  • Report hardware anomalies, driver defects, automation failures, and telemetry-accuracy issues with clear evidence and reproduction steps.
  • Work with ML, systems, and real-time software engineers to ensure that collected data supports model training and end-to-end platform validation.
  • Support controlled lab-validation activities involving AMD and approved security-software partners.
  • Work regularly on-site in Gdańsk and take ownership of the physical validation environment.

Job description

AMD is building a hardware-assisted security platform that uses silicon-level Performance Monitoring Counters (PMCs) and on-chip machine learning to detect advanced endpoint threats, including ransomware, fileless malware, and cryptojacking, at the processor layer, below OS-based evasion.

The platform collects CPU behavioral telemetry, classifies it through an ML inference engine, and exposes threat signals to security-software partners through a standardized API.

The project covers the full engineering path from silicon telemetry and data generation through ML training and validation, real-time inference, lab qualification, and partner integration.

The Lab Engineer will be responsible for establishing and operating the validation environment, automating test and telemetry-collection workflows, preparing reliable labeled datasets, and supporting hardware and system qualification.

The role requires regular on-site work in Gdańsk due to the use of dedicated physical lab systems. Additional implementation details will be shared during the recruitment process in line with the applicable confidentiality requirements.

Responsibilities:

Configure, operate, and maintain physical AMD PRO lab systems and isolated virtual environments used for security validation.

Develop automated test harnesses that safely execute approved test workloads and capture CPU telemetry, including PMC events, instruction-based sampling traces, and instruction-mix data.

Establish repeatable system-imaging, configuration, recovery, and clean-state restoration procedures.

Instrument lab systems to collect and validate hardware performance-counter data against expected system behavior and known threat-related behavioral patterns.

Prepare representative, reproducible, and correctly labeled telemetry datasets for the ML engineering workstream.

Execute functional and performance qualification tests across relevant AMD platforms and system configurations.

Define and maintain lab operating procedures, access controls, test specifications, hardware configurations, and asset lifecycle records.

Use laboratory instrumentation and platform-debugging tools to investigate hardware, firmware, system, and telemetry anomalies.

Report hardware anomalies, driver defects, automation failures, and telemetry-accuracy issues with clear evidence and reproduction steps.

Work with ML, systems, and real-time software engineers to ensure that collected data supports model training and end-to-end platform validation.

Support controlled lab-validation activities involving AMD and approved security-software partners.

Work regularly on-site in Gdańsk and take ownership of the physical validation environment.

Mandatory Skills Description:

4+ years of hands-on experience in hardware validation, silicon bring-up, system validation, security-lab engineering, or a comparable technical role.

Practical understanding of x86-64 CPU microarchitecture and hardware performance-monitoring infrastructure.

Experience collecting, analyzing, or validating low-level processor or system telemetry, such as hardware performance counters, instruction-based sampling data, system traces, or equivalent measurements.

Strong Python and/or C/C++ skills, with practical experience developing test automation, validation frameworks, or repeatable data-collection workflows.

Hands-on experience configuring, debugging, and maintaining physical test systems or complex hardware/software validation environments.

Experience with virtualization, system imaging, clean-state restoration, or isolated test environments.

Working knowledge of Windows system administration and debugging in a validation or laboratory environment.

Ability to define and follow rigorous safety, access-control, data-handling, and operational procedures.

Ability to prepare clear test specifications, lab procedures, hardware configuration records, defect reports, and reproduction steps.

Ability to work regularly on-site in Gdańsk and independently own the operation of a physical lab environment.

University degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or an equivalent field.
