Job summary

Hitachi Energy is seeking a Global Supplier Development Engineer for the Transformers business unit to lead supplier qualification, audits and improvement programs, ensuring material quality and cost-effectiveness across the supply base. You will implement proactive QA processes to enhance supplier performance and align with category strategy.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management or related field.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in quality assurance and supplier development in metal fabrication or related industries.
  • Knowledge of heat treatment and surface protection processes such as hot-dip galvanization, powder and wet paint processes, E-coating (KTL).
  • Familiarity with ISO-9001, IATF16949, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards; external auditor certification is a plus.
  • Welding engineering/inspector certification (IWE/IWI), painting/coating inspector (FROSIO), NDT certification (ISO 9712) is a strong advantage.
  • Good understanding of ISO 3834, EN 1090, welding standards (ISO 9606, ISO 15609, ISO 15614) and Q level standards (ISO 5817, ISO 23277) and NDT standards (ISO 3452, ISO 17637).
  • Proven experience with APQP/PPAP, PFMEA, Process Control Plan, and inspection test plan creation.

Responsibilities

  • Implement improvement actions at suppliers based on audit findings and process improvements.
  • Oversee global parts approval process to ensure materials meet requirements.
  • Monitor supplier performance indicators and drive annual Supplier Performance Evaluation.
  • Develop action plans for supplier performance recovery with corrective actions.
  • Resolve escalated non-conformities with root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Drive continuous improvement in supplier management processes at a global level.
  • Support SCM sustainability initiatives aligning with material and supplier sustainability goals.

Hitachi Energy is seeking a Global Supplier Development Engineer for the Business Unit Transformers to join our innovative and forward-thinking team. In this role, you will ensure our suppliers deliver high-quality materials while maintaining cost-effectiveness. You will implement proactive quality assurance processes to enhance the quality and delivery performance of our supply base. Aligning with our Category Strategy, you will lead supplier assessments, manage development initiatives, oversee parts approvals, and drive continuous improvement, ultimately elevating our supplier partnerships and contributing to our operational excellence.

How you will make an impact
  • Lead the supplier qualification process by conducting SAP Ariba assessments and executing global on-site audits to ensure supplier compliance and capability.
  • Implement improvement actions at suppliers based on audit findings and identified process improvements, fostering enhanced collaboration and quality outcomes.
  • Oversee the global parts approval process to ensure supplier materials and components meet technical and operational requirements.
  • Monitor supplier performance indicators and drive the annual Supplier Performance Evaluation process to identify and address low-performing suppliers.
  • Develop and implement action plans for supplier performance recovery, working closely with suppliers to ensure the effectiveness of corrective measures.
  • Resolve escalated non-conformities with suppliers by leading root cause analysis and ensuring proper implementation of corrective actions.
  • Drive continuous improvement in supplier management processes at a global level, ensuring compliance and promoting best practices across the business unit.
  • Support SCM sustainability initiatives by executing tasks related to sustainability and compliance, ensuring alignment with material and supplier sustainability goals.
Your background
  • Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management or a related field.

  • Good understanding of management standards such as ISO 3834, EN 1090, welding standards (ISO 9606, ISO 15609, ISO 15614) and the quality acceptance levels (e.g. ISO 5817, ISO 23277) and Non-destructive testing standards (ISO 3452, ISO 17637).
  • Proven experience with the process audits, APQP/PPAP, PFMEA, Process Control Plan, and inspection test plan creation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with strong organizational and time management skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of interacting with suppliers and cross- functional teams effectively.
  • Willingness to travel internationally to conduct supplier assessments and audits

The minimum salary for this position in the location specified is as follows:

Italy: starting from 62.200 € gross annual salary, Applicable CBA: Metalmeccanico
