Job summary

Zoolatech is seeking a Senior Engineer to join a client-facing technology team developing scalable RESTful and event-driven services. You will design, implement, and maintain full-stack features, collaborating with cross-functional teams across web UI, APIs, and infrastructure.

The role emphasizes quality, security, and performance in a dynamic retail tech environment. Ideal candidates have 4+ years of experience with Java/Spring Boot, AWS, Kubernetes, and CI/CD, and possess strong communication

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in CS, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 4+ years of professional experience in RESTful and event-driven development.
• Strong foundation in software engineering practices, data modeling, OOD, patterns, and algorithms.
• Experience with Java / Spring Boot.
• Experience with AWS services and Kubernetes, Redis, DynamoDB, Lambda, CloudFormation.
• Familiarity with Linux and Docker; test automation and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, New Relic and Splunk.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; passion for technology and impact.

A Senior Engineer is part of a key team of the client technology professionals that applies scientific, mathematical, and social principles to design, build, and maintain technology products, devices, systems, and solutions. These technology products and solutions provide amazing customer experiences while meeting the needs of the business. The scope and accountability at this level is responsible for the quality of a team’s work, ensuring that all designs are clear and complete for successful execution. This level can undertake complex design and problem solving without supervision.

Responsibilities

A day in the life:

• Design and collaborate with local and partner teams.
• Participate and contribute to the agile development and planning process.
• Write highly maintainable, easy-to-understand code for RESTful Services, event-driven systems, databases, and cloud infrastructure following secure coding practices.
• Demonstrate a foundational understanding of standards, concepts, and principles of engineering to solve the practical needs of the business.
• Design complex systems at the organization level with up/downstream dependencies and understand business metrics for the organization.
• Mentor other engineers and help them split larger designs into individual work units.
• Design and validate all scenarios conform to code quality through complete and automated unit, functional, integration, and end-end testing.
• Identify and prevent performance issues, optimize solutions and infrastructure, and lead cross-functional troubleshooting.
• Instrument code appropriately, creating custom metrics, alerts, and dashboards.
• Ensure adherence to Engineering best practices across the entire solution.
• Collaborate with other software engineers on design and best practices and conduct code reviews.
• Understand tradeoffs in types of engineering processes and adjust a team process to meet the project’s needs.
• Test all scenarios and conform to quality and security standards Participate in design and code review to ensure quality and testability of feature.

• Experience using Java / Spring Boot
• Experience using AWS services such as Kubernetes, Elastic Cache Redis, DynamoDB, Lambda, CloudFormation, etc., or features on other similar cloud hosted platforms.
• Familiarity with Linux/Docker and open source software development.
• Familiarity with test automation and CI/CD pipelines
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, New Relic and Splunk
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information to nontechnical audiences
• Passion for new technologies, operational excellence and customer impact.
