Citigroup Inc. in Warsaw is seeking an experienced Lead Software Engineer to drive design, development, and modernization of enterprise-scale applications. You will lead teams while remaining hands-on with Angular, Java, and Spring Boot.

You will work with management, architects, and leads to build scalable, maintainable applications, support external resources, and contribute to AI-enabled capabilities. Hybrid model with up to 2 days remote per week.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical design and development of enterprise applications using Angular, Java and Spring Boot.
• Remain hands-on in coding, particularly for complex features and integrations.
• Provide day-to-day technical guidance to engineers and contractors, including code reviews and troubleshooting.
• Design and develop scalable REST APIs, microservices and frontend-backend integrations.
• Establish engineering standards for frontend architecture and performance.
• Collaborate with data and platform engineers to integrate data services and asynchronous processing.
• Contribute to AI-enabled features and LLM-based service integration.
• Translate requirements into practical designs and deliverable solutions.
• Champion automated testing, CI/CD, code quality, secure development and reliability.
• Identify technical risks and mentor engineers to ensure ownership of solutions.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced, hands‑on Lead Software Engineer to drive the design, development and modernization of enterprise‑scale applications. The role requires strong expertise in Angular and Java/Spring Boot, combined with the ability to provide technical leadership, guide engineering teams and deliver high‑quality software solutions.

The successful candidate will work closely with engineering management, architects and other technical leads to develop scalable, maintainable applications, support external engineering resources and contribute to AI‑enabled capabilities.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the technical design and development of enterprise applications using Angular, Java and Spring Boot.
• Remain hands‑on in coding, particularly for complex features, foundational components and critical integrations.
• Provide day‑to‑day technical guidance to engineers and contractors, including code reviews, troubleshooting and implementation support.
• Design and develop scalable REST APIs, microservices and seamless frontend‑backend integrations.
• Establish engineering standards for frontend architecture, reusable components, application performance and maintainability.
• Collaborate with data and platform engineers to integrate data services, asynchronous processing and event‑driven capabilities.
• Contribute to AI‑enabled application features, intelligent workflow automation and integration with LLM‑based services.
• Translate business and technical requirements into practical designs, development tasks and deliverable solutions.
• Champion automated testing, CI/CD, code quality, secure development and operational reliability.
• Identify technical risks, resolve engineering challenges and support delivery commitments.
• Mentor engineers, promote knowledge sharing and ensure sustainable internal ownership of developed solutions.
  

Recommended Qualifications:

• 6-10 years of relevant experience in an Engineering role
• Experience working in Financial Services or a large complex and/or global environment
• Project Management experience
• Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication
• Comprehensive knowledge of design metrics, analytics tools, benchmarking activities and related reporting to identify best practices
• Demonstrated analytic/diagnostic skills
• Ability to work in a matrix environment and partner with virtual teams
• Ability to work independently, prioritize, and take ownership of various parts of a project or initiative
• Ability to work under pressure and manage to tight deadlines or unexpected changes in expectations or requirements
• Proven track record of operational process change and improvement

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience
• Master’s degree preferred
