Job summary

Charles River Development seeks a seasoned software engineer to join a Scrum team, contributing to the enhancement and maintenance of CRIMS modules with Java, C#, SQL, and React in a Wealth Management context.

The role requires 6–10 years of experience, strong problem-solving, and the ability to navigate a large code base while delivering scalable, high-quality solutions in an agile environment.

Qualifications

• 6 to 10 years of progressively responsible professional software engineering experience.
• Hands-on development experience with Java, React, SQL and related software engineering technologies, with the ability to deliver sustainable solutions with minimal supervision.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Good understanding of Algorithms/data structures, OO Design and SOLID principles
• Able to work well with peers in a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities

• Work under minimal supervision to analyze, design, develop, test, and debug small to large software enhancements and solutions within Charles River’s business and technical problem domains, with strong ownership of delivery quality and maintainability.
• Collaborate with Business Analysts and Product Managers to turn business requirements of moderate complexity into working and sustainable software.
• Participate in the design of product architecture within the team’s scope of responsibility, contributing to scalable, supportable, and sustainable technical solutions.
• Develop, test, debug, and implement software programs, applications, and services using Java, C#, SQL, React, or other related software engineering technologies.
• Provide thoughtful insight and suggestions in code reviews.
• Write unit and automation tests to ensure a high-quality product.
• Mentor junior developers and help establish engineering best practices across the team.
• Conduct manual tests to ensure a high-quality product.
• Contribute to written design and API documentation and participate in the customer documentation process.
• Actively participate in the agile software development process by adhering to the CRD scrum methodology, including attending daily standups, sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives.
• Participate in cross-team group activities to complete assignments.

Job Description:

Leading technical contributor to the enhancement and maintenance of one or more Charles River IMS modules or components of an agile scrum team.

Top 3 must-haves:

Good communication skills are a must

Top 3 nice to have:

Systems Design, Performance Testing experience, Experience working with Build tools like Gradle and SCM tools like GitHub.

Nice to have -

C#/WinForms.

• Experience with Optimizers like Axioma and Risk optimization is a big plus.
• Also good to have experience with tools like Dynatrace, SolarWinds.
• Data modeling and database performance troubleshooting experience is a plus.
• Good understanding of best coding practices, object-oriented design, and prior experience navigating complex code base.
• Prior experience with performance troubleshooting on the database and application layer are a plus

• The platform services both Institutional and Wealth Management clients. The team sits in the heart of this solution. It develops and supports optimization engine tools used for portfolio construction and risk-based rebalancing within CRIMS system.
• This position will be a critical contributor with ownership for designing and implementing complex wealth and investment management workflows leveraged by some of the largest participants in the industry. The role requires a strong full-stack engineer who can work across rich web functionality, backend services, automated testing, performance engineering, and system scalability while contributing to sustainable technical design and high-quality delivery in a collaborative environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in financial services developing solutions for Portfolio Management, Trading, Wealth Management, Risk optimization, Optimizers like Axioma, Risk models.
• Experience with modern web application development using React and related libraries.
• B.S. degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, and Physics or other technical course of study required.
• Demonstrated experience with object‑oriented programming, REST APIs, event‑driven systems, automated testing, scripting, and performance‑focused engineering practices.
• Previous experience with relational databases such as SQL Server, Postgres, or Oracle.
• Experience with cloud and modernization technologies, such as Azure, Kubernetes, Kafka, micro‑services, and event‑driven architecture.
• Experience with engineering and operational tools such as Dynatrace, SolarWinds, and Temporal workflow engine would be helpful.
• Experience with AI‑assisted software development tools such as GitHub Copilot and Agentic AI tools is preferred.
• Experience with C# and WinForms is valuable for maintaining legacy software components.
