Job summary

The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) is seeking a Special Education teacher to provide direct instruction in virtual and in-person settings, collaborating with general education staff and home school teams to support students with disabilities.

This role includes case management for IEPs, developing instructional plans, coordinating with related service providers, families, and IEP teams, and ensuring access to the general education curriculum with appropriate supports and adaptations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher.
• Meets MSDE licensure requirements for Special Education (grades 6-12).
• Out-of-state licensure pathways encouraged to pursue Maryland licensure.

Responsibilities

• Plans and implements instructional programs for students with disabilities.
• Provides direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities and general education teachers.
• Serves as liaison between school staff and administration including the special education supervisor.
• Prepares for IEP team meetings and provides case management for assigned students.
• Interprets informal and formal assessments to inform instruction.
• Collects data on student performance to improve outcomes and direct instruction.
• Selects adapted materials to access the general education curriculum.
• Communicates with students and families to share progress.
