Job description

SwingDev—a hippo company is the Polish branch of a fast-growing InsurTech product company – Hippo Insurance. We’re here to make home insurance smarter and more proactive, using tech to bring fresh solutions. We also create digital products that support our customers, always focusing on what really makes an impact.

Putting a lot of effort into hiring top-tier devs, designers, PMs, and QAs, is a proof that we care a lot about tech experience, the attitude, human approach, and what we could call „culture fit”.

“SwingDev is all about people” - yes, it may sound a bit cliche. But whether we're writing code or just hanging out, we know that people are at the heart of everything we do. We like to have a good time and keep things light, even when we're tackling big projects. We could brag about what’s making us special, but we’ve boiled it down to two key ingredients: mature, companionable people who, rather than compete, prefer to inspire and have each other’s backs; a culture of trust, empathy, and positivity that keeps us together, lets us interact as teammates and friends, and truly enjoy the ride.

As the Senior Engineering Manager, you’ll lead a group of talented, passionate software engineers. You’ll exert technical leadership by investing in their individual growth, managing team operations, and participating in their day-to-day work. You’ll partner closely with multiple Product Managers to craft and maintain a strong vision for our software products, evaluating business impact and technical tradeoffs to support a top strategic business space – Hippo Home Insurance Program (HHIP).

What will you do:
  • Lead, mentor and grow a team of seven engineers (mid and senior), fostering their growth for higher impact and effective teamwork.
  • Manage one of Hippo's top strategic engineering spaces – Insurance Products charter – end‑to‑end, from technical direction to delivery.
  • Collaborate with talented Product Managers to manage the team’s project roadmap, clarifying requirements, and ensuring a balance of technical excellence, agility, and user benefit.
  • Influence and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders within Hippo.
  • Show strong technical leadership with a data‑driven mindset, focusing on excellent execution and high‑quality software, and ensuring the team delivers real business value – not just features.
  • Coordinate with teams in our global locations across the US and Poland.

We might be a match if you…

  • Have experience in designing scalable, maintainable systems with a solid architectural understanding.
  • Have successfully led one or more teams as a people manager.
  • Communicate clearly, handle escalations effectively, and ensure continuous progress.
  • Have a proven ability to influence cross‑functional teams and senior management.
  • Have a strong automation mindset and love getting rid of repetitive, manual work.
  • Care about growing your team and helping others succeed, not just about your own achievements.
  • Are focused on building strong, trust‑based relationships with business and product partners.
  • Are not afraid of legacy systems – you see them as an opportunity to improve, modernise, and redesign.
  • Maintain a relentless focus on end‑users, creating customer‑centric solutions.
  • Are adaptable, able to expand your scope of work or transition to new areas of impact within a fast‑moving scale‑up environment.
  • Have a high level of technical proficiency with some of Hippo’s tech stack, including JavaScript/Node.js, TypeScript, React, and Python.
  • Have experience collaborating with distributed teams and are open to working across locations, including Poland and the US (CA, TX).
  • Have a great command of English and Polish (both written & spoken).
  • Are available in the afternoons – we prioritise everyone’s personal time and work‑life fit, but since we work in multinational teams, occasional evening meetings may be necessary to ensure smooth communication across time zones.
Nice to have would be if you:
  • Have insurance industry experience, especially in US Home insurance domain.
Recruitment process:
  • Send us your CV – it's the best way for us to get to know you.
  • Meet Ola, one of our Recruiters.
  • Join for the technical conversation with future peers Przemek and Krystian.
  • Meet your Manager, Damian, and Sav, Director of Product.
  • Meet on the final stage with Marcin and Alicja.
  • and... welcome aboard!
