Job summary

Box is seeking a people-first engineering leader to head a Warsaw-based team responsible for turning AI-driven capabilities into scalable, customer-facing products. You will guide engineers across backend and frontend, ensure delivery predictability, and collaborate with cross-functional partners.

The role focuses on building a high-performing, distributed engineering organization within Box Extract in Poland, with hybrid office expectations and strong leadership responsibilities.

Qualifications

• People-first engineering leader with 2+ years of management experience.
• 5+ years of professional software development experience building full-stack web apps (JS/TS and Java).
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and service-oriented architectures.
• Full-stack awareness across backend and frontend concepts.
• Strong technical judgment for system design decisions and trade-offs.
• Experience in data-driven environments with metrics like velocity and delivery performance.
• Experience building and growing teams, mentoring both senior and junior engineers.
• Clear communicator with proactive risk management.
• Effective stakeholder management with cross-functional and distributed teams.
• Comfortable in dynamic environments with dependencies across teams.
• Proficient in English.

Responsibilities

• Build, lead, and grow an engineering team (5–7 engineers) in Poland.
• Define the team’s roadmap, execution strategy, and own delivery outcomes.
• Ensure strong delivery predictability, including planning, estimation, and execution.
• Partner with engineers on system design and technical decisions (non-coding).
• Develop team members through 1:1s, coaching, performance management, and hiring.
• Establish a strong, collaborative, and accountable team culture.
• Drive high standards in execution, quality, and scalability.
• Organize team processes (stand-ups, sprint planning, technical discussions) and track progress.
• Collaborate with product and partner teams to scope initiatives and align on priorities.
• Manage cross-team dependencies and coordinate with stakeholders across regions.
• Proactively identify risks and ensure transparency in delivery.
• Represent Box internally and externally.
