Job summary

Agoda is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead one or more backend teams, shaping AI‑driven product and platform initiatives while maintaining high‑quality, scalable systems. You will mentor engineers, drive architectural decisions, and ensure delivery of mission‑critical services across pricing, inventory, and bookings.

You will balance hands-on coding with people leadership, promote CI/CD practices, and stay ahead of industry trends to accelerate engineering productivity and product

Qualifications

• Proficient in at least one programming language: Java, Scala, or C#.
• Strong experience in systems architecture for complex, scalable distributed systems.
• Demonstrable experience as a system owner with operational responsibility.
• Proficient in lower-level engineering: garbage collection, context switching, threading.
• DevOps culture – agility, leanness, automation, CI/CD.
• Good understanding of application security.
• Passionate about technology and the Internet.
• Experience working in an agile development team.
• Run engineering teams before with 5+ direct reports.
• Operate autonomously: making decisions, setting KPIs, with a strong sense of ownership.
• Practice data-driven decision making.

Our Backend Engineering team builds the scalable, fault‑tolerant systems and APIs that power our global travel platform across pricing, inventory, customer data, bookings, payments, and more. The Opportunity

The Engineering Manager role at Agoda is one of the most significant and challenging roles at the company. The right candidate is both extremely hands on – technically excellent, with solid engineering principles – and exhibits strong leadership and people development skills. We are looking for world class development managers to lead one or more of our engineering teams.

In this Role, you’ll get to:

• Drive the end‑to‑end execution of AI‑focused product and platform initiatives, fostering engineering scalability, organizational alignment, and high‑impact delivery.
• Be hands‑on – it’s one of the job’s fundamental tasks, and most of our development managers are writing and reviewing code, giving expert level coaching and guidance to their engineers.
• Be passionate about engineering and building things elegantly and at scale, stay abreast of industry trends, and have strong opinions about system architecture, engineering, and maintenance.
• Do full‑stack engineering: solid experience in all parts of the technology stack – infrastructure, client side, back end, performance, data, and others.
• Develop people – be able to inspire and help them achieve their potential; bring top performers in and integrate them into the business.

What you’ll Need to Succeed

• Extremely proficient in at least one programming language (Java, Scala, C#)
