Lyten Poland is looking for a versatile and hands‑on Environmental, Health & Safety Manager. In this role, you will be the foundational pillar of our EHS culture. As safety leader you move beyond \"compliance‑on‑paper\" to build a living safety culture where every team member feels empowered to stop work, report risks, and take personal ownership of their environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Map the current state of the facility from an EHS perspective, identify gaps, and build comprehensive process map from scratch.
• Create, implement, and enforce optimal operational EHS policies, procedures, and documentation tailored to a start‑up reality, ensuring its scalability with company growth.
• Oversee overall Health & Safety operations, and take full ownership of the site’s environmental compliance, building a robust EHS management strategy.
• Build EHS organisation with World Class Manufacturing mindset fostering best‑in‑class EHS industry standards.
• Establish a robust EHS performance framework by defining and tracking departmental and site‑wide goals, objectives and targets.
• Proactively seek out and implement industry best practices by benchmarking with other leading manufacturing sites and battery sector peers to accelerate our path to excellence.
• Actively import and adapt proven solutions from the wider industrial community, ensuring our EHS systems are not built in a vacuum but are informed by \"world‑class\" standards.
• Drive the EHS agenda through Visual Management (clear signage, safety dashboards, floor marking) and integrate safety standards directly into the 5S workplace organization system.
• Perform risk assessments for all HSE fields on the site, including emergency mode, non‑prescribed/unplanned work such as contractor works, unplanned maintenance, deviation to validated process, and each deviation is captured in database with an updated mitigation plan to cover deviation lead time.
• Investigate incidents and accidents to determine root causes and implement corrective/preventive actions.
• Work closely with PMO & ME delivering early EHS involvement to ensure that all initiatives, programs & projects incorporate EHS input from the very start (Upstream EHS).
• Lead or participate in technical risk assessments for new and existing production lines using HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Study) or FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) to identify and mitigate process‑related risks.
• Ensure full compliance with all relevant EU and country‑specific environmental laws, regulations, and reporting obligations.
• Act as the main point of contact for local environmental authorities and regulatory bodies.
• Take full ownership of fire safety systems and protocols. Design and implement site‑specific fire prevention strategies, focusing on early detection and suppression systems (e.g., specialized systems for battery storage and production).
• Move beyond traditional auditing to act as a mentor and coach on the shop floor. Focus on ’Safety II’ principles—learning from what goes right, not just investigating what goes wrong.
• Implement programs that encourage proactive participation and dialogue, ensuring safety is integrated into the daily operational PDCA.
• Oversee internal systems to ensure data accuracy and integrity (e.g., time tracking, scheduling, business travel).
• Design and facilitate interactive workshops and safety circles that empower operators to co‑create safety standards, ensuring buy‑in and genuine commitment across all levels of the organization.
• Build, train, and lead the internal Fire & Emergency Teams. Ensure regular, high‑quality evacuation drills and emergency scenarios that specifically address chemical and thermal risks.
• Develop and enforce “Life‑Saving Rules” and critical safety standards.
• Planning, assigning, budgeting and monitoring the implementation of all corrective or preventive improvement actions in the technical field following to internal/ external audits, inspections and exchange of best practices.
• Work closely with all department heads to ensure all relevant company policies & procedures incorporate EHS factor.
• Monitor incidents and accidents on the site and implement systems to prevent following.
• Transforming safety from a set of rules into a shared organizational value.
• Fostering an environment of Psychological Safety, where employees feel rewarded for identifying risks and suggesting improvements.
• Implementing Visual Management and transparent feedback loops that make safety status and goals intuitive and accessible to everyone on the floor.
• Develop and deliver mandatory and non‑mandatory training programs to foster a culture of safety and environmental accountability.
• Define, plan, and execute the EHS department budget.
• Build an effective collaboration across all internal departments, , industry collaborators and external partners.
• Communicate proactively internally (operators, managers, employee representatives) and externally (authorities, inspectors, neighbours, other companies, etc.) on HSE issues.
• Communication with local authorities, contractors and employees regarding EHS information.
• Reporting compliance obligations to all relevant bodies.
• Be a role model, develop self‑awareness, practice sustainable leadership, and foster growth mindset.

Requirements

• University degree in Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, or a related technical field
• 5+ years in a manufacturing environment (experience in battery, chemical, automotive, or FMCG sectors is a distinct advantage)
• Previous experience in the battery manufacturing sector, including knowledge of specific industry norms and best practices, as well as battery specific hazards, is a huge advantage
• Certified Senior H&S Specialist (according to local regulations)
• Practical experience in implementing or auditing ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards, ideally certified as an internal auditor (highly preferred)
• Greenfield or Start‑Up experience, and comfortable working hands‑on to build EHS frameworks from scratch (as advantage)
• Strong environmental expertise, with deep understanding of environmental regulations, permitting, and reporting in manufacturing.
• Exceptional communication and leadership skills; ability to influence culture at all levels of the organization.
• Ability to manage budgets, external contractors, and complex legal compliance projects independently.

Specific Skills

• Strong practical knowledge of fire safety regulations and technical standards (e.g., NFPA or local equivalents).
• Fluent English (C1/C2) and Polish (C1/C2).
• Practical experience in applying World Class Manufacturing standards (ie. PDCA, HAZOP, FMEA, 5S, Visual Management, RCA, or SWOT).
• Familiarity with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
• Experience in working with IATF 16949, practical knowledge of EU Battery Regulation 2023/1542, and expertise in ATEX are a significant advantage.
