Project info:We are looking for an engineer to take care of bug triage, root cause analysis and release engineering for a fleet of ChromeOS hardware used in a large enterprise video-conferencing hardware program. You own the operational lifecycle of release candidates, first-line bug triage and best-effort software mitigation across ChromeOS devices, meeting-room hardware bundles, firmware and AV peripherals.
Responsibilities
- Own first-line triage of inbound bug reports in the client's issue tracker: classification, priority tagging, component assignment, duplicate identification.
- Perform root cause analysis: extract and parse system logs, crash dumps and trace data; reproduce complex multi-device and peripheral interaction bugs.
- Author, review and submit best-effort software patches for identified defects; verify cherry-picked fixes in release branches.
- Manage release candidate operations end to end: branch cuts, nightly build qualification, RC validation, enforcing release-blocking criteria, publishing sign-off dashboards.
- Meet operational SLAs: P0/P1 initial triage under 4 hours within the US EST shift, P2/P3 under 8 hours, 98% on-time RC sign-off, under 2% production defect escape daily inside the client's internal engineering infrastructure.
Job requirements
- Proven, sustained engineering experience in Chromium OS and the Linux kernel: driver debugging, CVE backporting, core subsystem troubleshooting (USB, display pipelines, audio routing, power management).
- Demonstrated experience managing release candidate lifecycles, branch qualification and build pipelines for embedded or OS-level platforms.
- Proficiency in complex system log parsing, crash dump analysis and multi-device interaction debugging.
- Working experience with distributed version control and code review systems (Gerrit, Git) and with enterprise issue-tracking platforms (e.g. "Jira or similar").
- Ability to reliably cover a mandatory 4-6 hour daily overlap with US Eastern Time.
- An automation mindset: comfortable using AI-assisted tooling and agentic scripts to speed up your own triage, RCA and release work, rather than doing every step by hand.
- Nice to have: Direct experience with video-conferencing-room hardware architecture (compute units, AV systems) and peripheral firmware integration (e.g. cameras, soundbars, touch controllers).
- Prior exposure to large, internal monorepo-based engineering ecosystems and OS-vendor source-code overlays, plus SQL, BigQuery or equivalent data-analysis tooling.
- Experience maintaining custom OS distributions, U-Boot-style bootloaders and firmware-update utilities for legacy embedded compute units.
