Job summary

Paris Tobacco Company is seeking an experienced Chief Accountant to lead our Warsaw finance operations. This hands-on role oversees accounting, statutory reporting, tax compliance and closing processes, coordinating with senior management and cross-functional teams in an international setting.

The successful candidate will drive month-end and year-end closings, ensure VAT/CIT compliance, and supervise a multilingual accounting team, with occasional travel to the Radom area.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline.
  • 7+ years accounting experience, including senior or Chief Accountant role within an international organisation.
  • Strong knowledge of Polish accounting principles, statutory reporting and Polish and EU tax regulations.
  • Practical knowledge of VAT, CIT, excise and other tax requirements.
  • Proven experience in month-end and year-end closing, statutory reporting, reconciliations and audits.
  • Experience with KSeF and JPK is an advantage.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
  • Fluency in English (B2/C1).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations and ensure timely recording of financial transactions.
  • Lead month-end and year-end closing, including GL, AP/AR, accruals, provisions, fixed assets and reconciliations.
  • Prepare and review statutory financial statements and other reports per Polish regulations.
  • Oversee VAT, CIT, WHT and transfer pricing compliance.
  • Coordinate external and statutory audits with auditors and tax advisors.
  • Oversee accounting for KSeF, JPK and e-invoicing.
  • Supervise accounting team and offshore/shared services.
  • Maintain accounting controls, policies, and processes; improve systems.
  • Collaborate with Finance, IT and other stakeholders on financial systems and processes.
  • Provide financial information to Finance Manager and Management (budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, inventory).
  • Occasional business visits to the office near Radom.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Chief Accountant to join our Finance team in Warsaw. This is a hands-on management position with responsibility for the company's accounting operations, statutory reporting, tax compliance and financial closing processes.

The role offers the opportunity to work closely with senior management and cross-functional teams in an international and dynamic business environment, while taking ownership of key accounting processes and ensuring compliance with Polish regulations and company policies.

Key responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations and ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions.
  • Lead month-end and year-end closing processes, including general ledger, AP/AR, accruals, provisions, fixed assets and reconciliations.
  • Prepare and review statutory financial statements and other reports in accordance with Polish accounting regulations.
  • Oversee tax compliance, including VAT, CIT, WHT and transfer pricing.
  • Ensure accurate reconciliations and maintain the integrity and completeness of accounting records.
  • Monitor changes in Polish and EU accounting and tax regulations and assess their impact on accounting processes.
  • Coordinate and support external and statutory audits, working closely with auditors, tax advisors and other external stakeholders.
  • Oversee accounting processes related to KSeF, JPK and e-invoicing.
  • Supervise and coordinate accounting team members and offshore/shared services support.
  • Maintain and improve accounting controls, policies, procedures and processes.
  • Work closely with Finance, IT and other stakeholders on financial systems and process improvements.
  • Provide accounting support and financial information to the Finance Manager and Management, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and inventory-related activities.
  • Be available for occasional business visits and working days at the Company's office near Radom.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably including experience in a senior or Chief Accountant role within an international organisation.
  • Strong knowledge of Polish accounting principles, statutory reporting and Polish and EU tax regulations.
  • Practical knowledge of VAT, CIT, excise and other relevant tax requirements.
  • Proven experience in month-end and year-end closing, statutory reporting, reconciliations and audits.
  • Experience with KSeF and JPK will be an advantage.
  • Good command of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Good command of English, both written and spoken (B2/C1).
  • Hands-on approach and ability to independently manage accounting activities and take ownership of processes.
  • Experience supervising or coordinating accounting teams and/or shared services teams.
  • Strong analytical, organisational, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail and accountability.
  • Category B driving licence and willingness to travel to the Company's office near Radom when required.
