Job summary

CommIT is seeking a Backend Team Lead to drive technical execution and engineering excellence in a fast-growing cybersecurity focused team. You will lead a hands-on engineering effort across multiple streams, shaping design decisions and delivering scalable, high-quality backend services.

You’ll stay hands-on with Node.js, AWS, and MongoDB while developing people, coordinating with product and customers, and ensuring reliable, end-to-end delivery in a fast-paced, AI-enabled environment.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of hands-on software development experience.
• 3–5 years in a technical leadership or Team Lead role.
• Strong backend experience with Node.js and AWS.
• Experience with MongoDB and a cloud-based, scalable architecture.
• Ability to lead across multiple workstreams and collaborates with global teams.
• Excellent communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Own team execution across multiple workstreams with high-quality delivery.
• Drive sprint planning, prioritization, and capacity planning.
• Coordinate cross-team efforts and remove blockers.
• Develop the team through coaching and feedback.

We’re growing fast and looking for a Backend Team Lead to join our Engineering team and play a key role in driving technical execution, engineering excellence, and the delivery of scalable, high-quality products. This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership role where you will combine strong backend engineering expertise with technical leadership and people development.

You will work closely with Engineering, Product, Customer Success, and customers, owning execution across multiple workstreams and helping shape technical decisions from initial design through production. We’re looking for someone who is technically strong, hands-on, AI-driven, and passionate about developing people while building scalable and reliable systems.

What You'll do:

Leadership & Sprint Execution

• Own Team Execution: Lead the team across multiple workstreams, ensuring high-quality delivery every sprint.
• Drive Sprint Planning: Own prioritization, capacity planning, and alignment on sprint goals.
• Cross-Team Coordination: Serve as the bridge between your team and others, removing blockers and managing dependencies.
• Develop the Team: Boost velocity and capabilities through coaching, feedback, and gap identification.

Technical Excellence & Design

• Own Technical Design: Lead design of scalable, reliable, maintainable features built to strong engineering standards.
• Stay Hands-On: Lead by example in high-scale, cloud-based development (Node.js, AWS, MongoDB).
• Drive Code Quality: Conduct code reviews and promote best practices in architecture and performance.
• Partner with Product: Work with PMs to shape features from concept through release.

Customer-Facing & Domain Ownership

• Engage with Customers: Join technical sessions to address requirements, challenges, and integrations.
• Own Your Domain: Act as technical lead for your domain, liaising with Customer Success.
• Shape Product Enhancements: Drive technical decisions on improvements and new capabilities.

Requirements

What We’re Looking For:

• 6+ years of hands-on software development experience
• 3–5 years of experience in a technical leadership or Team Lead role
• Deep hands-on expertise with Node.js — must-have
• Strong experience with AWS — must-have
• Experience with React — preferred
• Experience with Python — advantage
• Experience working with MongoDB
• Strong experience designing and building scalable backend systems
• Proven experience managing technical execution across multiple workstreams
• Strong understanding of software architecture, scalability, reliability, and clean code principles
• Experience delivering end-to-end features and projects from design through production
• Experience working in a fast-paced product environment
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to make technical decisions independently
